THE ROLE:
This role demands a seasoned professional with strong technical expertise in server platform hardware and is adept at navigating the complex interplay between hardware and software in AI GPU solutions. By facilitating a close collaboration with our Instinct platform and product architects, lead system designers, and firmware developers, you will be key to shaping future AI products that stand out in the market and provide unrivaled value to our customers.
In this role, you will be a key contributor in the Data Center GPU, Customer Systems Architecture and Enablement organization in the Power Delivery / Power Integrity engineering areas. The role will require intense engagements across all our system design MDC, OEM and ODM partners as we work together to build the best systems as building blocks to our customers' AI needs.
THE PERSON:
As a Leader in AI Customer Enablement, you will work with our key customers to enable scalable power solutions that meet the power and performance needs of the Instinct GPUs. In this high visibility position, your systems engineering expertise will be necessary towards product development, definition, and root cause resolution.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for understanding customer needs and company goals in AI server power solution (PSU, PDU, Power Shelf, bus bar etc.) designs. Research, support and test customer designs to ensure feature functionality, ensure spec compliance and meet the operational needs of the AMD GPUs.
- Perform modeling and simulations of the rack / platform / module level power solutions, to ensure robust design (decoupling, transient response, thermals etc.) to meet the sustained and transient power needs of the AMD GPU.
- Develop and drive design review processes of our customer's platform designs and flag areas that could be modified to improve quality, performance, or other areas key to their competitiveness.
- Conduct testing, validation and debug of customer power solution designs to ensure functionality and robustness.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the power management control capabilities of the AMD GPUs with the intention of using these control mechanisms to provide performance/watt optimizations as well as in-field mitigations of power related issues.
- Provide architectural guidance and support to our internal systems design teams and customers as we help them develop their AI servers for our Instinct product line.
- Engage with customers on requirements for form factor and power during concept and pre-sales timeframe, shaping the overall technical direction of our AI solutions.
- Provide strategic oversight for our AMD participation in industry consortiums, driving forward key AI initiatives.
- Drive future product architecture influence, leveraging insights from deep customer execution engagements.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in server platform hardware design with a specialized focus on the power delivery solution design; including modeling and simulating power distribution solutions.
- Experience with hardware validation, ensuring robust and reliable solutions.
- Familiarity with the key components of the grid-to-die server power distribution solutions such as AICs, power shelves, PSUs, bus bars, voltage regulators, IBCs, power blocks, etc, and the major suppliers of these ingredients.
- A track record of working closely with customers, engaging in dialogue to understand their needs and aligning our product development accordingly.
- Experience working with ODMs & OEMs and MDCs in delivering complex solutions at significant scale.
- History of influencing architectural direction through product execution learnings.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
A degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) MS with 10+ years of experience or a BS with 15+ yrs of experience.
