SMTS SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

THE ROLE:

AMD is seeking a software engineer specializing in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) for FPGA implementation software (Vivado). In this role, you will design and develop cutting-edge tools to optimize FPGA implementation software. You will have the opportunity to shape future AMD technologies by improving EDA tool efficiency, scalability, and performance, potentially, through innovative applications of AI and ML.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong background in software development, a passion for advancing the state of FPGA implementation software, and a keen interest in integrating AI / ML techniques into EDA processes. They should possess excellent programming skills, an aptitude for problem-solving, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams. Prior experience or knowledge in ML/LLM applications is preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, develop, and optimize EDA software solutions for FPGA implementation software (Vivado).
  • Debug, resolve, and refine existing features in Vivado, benchmarking every release for improvements.
  • Collaborate with AMD's architecture and hardware teams, focusing on data-driven approaches to improve software and hardware integration.
  • Build strong technical relationships and work collaboratively with peers and external partners.
  • Explore and apply ML/LLM techniques to address EDA-specific challenges, such as timing optimization, power analysis, and resource allocation.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven expertise in object-oriented programming (C/C++ preferred), and ability to write high-quality, maintainable code.
  • Strong background in EDA software tools, preferably experience with Vivado or similar FPGA design software.
  • 12+ years of software development experience, with a focus on EDA or hardware design automation.
  • Familiarity with modern concurrent programming and threading APIs for multi-threaded optimizations.
  • Strong debugging, profiling, and performance evaluation skills for both conventional and AI-driven workflows.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and organizations.
  • Proficiency in applying ML/AI techniques to EDA or hardware optimization workflows is a plus.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's / Master's / PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Advanced degrees (PhD) in a relevant domain with a focus on ML/AI applications in EDA are a strong plus.
