THE ROLE:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineer to support the development, deployment, and sustainment of test hardware used in datacenter manufacturing environments. This role is critical to ensuring the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of test infrastructure for high-volume server and system production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Test Hardware Support & Sustaining
- Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical fixtures, jigs, and test stations used in server/system validation.
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for test hardware failures or inefficiencies.
- Collaborate with test engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure hardware readiness and uptime.
- Create an efficient manufacturing assembly/test line, specifying and/or refining BOMs, workflow processes, and detailed MPI work instructions.
- Take ownership of new products during prototype and pilot production phases through successful and sustained product launch. This includes driving new product introduction schedules, resolving manufacturability issues, and driving improvements in cost and efficiency.
- Conduct regular audits to ODM/CEM factory to ensure stable processes and continuous yield improvements.
- Design & Development
- Design mechanical components and assemblies for new test fixtures and automation solutions.
- Work with vendors and internal teams to prototype and validate mechanical designs.
- Ensure designs meet manufacturability, safety, and ergonomic standards.
- Provide product and process DFM (Design for Manufacturing) input to Engineering design team(s) to enhance manufacturability and product cost.
- Design and create test equipment and fixtures as needed to build the production line either internally or as needed at manufacturing partners.
- Provide technical support analyzing and/or performing failure analysis for discrepant production components, assemblies and field returns.
- Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve test hardware reliability, throughput, and cost-effectiveness.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Create and maintain detailed documentation including CAD drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.
- Ensure compliance with EHS standards and datacenter manufacturing protocols.
- Generate and maintain operational procedures for AMD and manufacturing partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- Good years of experience in mechanical design or manufacturing support, preferably in datacenter or electronics manufacturing.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Familiarity with test hardware, automation systems, and fixture design.
- Strong problem-solving skills and hands-on experience with mechanical troubleshooting.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience with supplier management.
- Able to work under pressure to deadlines.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with geographically distributed engineering and manufacturing teams.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience with server or datacenter hardware.
- Knowledge of thermal and structural analysis.
- Familiarity with PLCs, sensors, and basic electrical integration.
- Experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- PC and server architecture knowledge.
- Experience presenting to management levels.
- Knowledge of process management techniques such as Gage R&R, six-sigma and lean manufacturing.
