Overview

Job Summary

Responsible for the planning, coordination, and management of compliance activities related to the provision of facility (the hospital) and ancillary services provided by Atrium Health (the Enterprise) Hospitals.  This position will have compliance responsibilities for the multiple large hospitals in the Greater Charlotte Region.   This position functions as an objective reviewer and evaluator of compliance issues and concerns within the assigned Enterprise Hospitals and will serve as the Enterprise Compliance Office's primary representative for the assigned Enterprise Hospitals' senior leadership and workforce, when appropriate. This position will need to be located in the Charlotte Metro Region and requires an onsite presence at the designated locations.  This position will coordinate compliance issues with the Legal Department, Finance and Revenue Cycle, and other Risk departments, when appropriate. 

Essential Functions

  • Exemplifies the Enterprise's Values and Code of Conduct, while striving to identify compliance risk through department led risk assessments, monitoring, and periodic audits, and reporting any identified violation to Legal and the Enterprise Compliance Office.  

  • Assists the Chief Compliance Officer or their designee with the development and completion of the Enterprise's Compliance Plan and the annual compliance work plan. Performs continual assessments of the risks facing the Enterprise with a focus of risk relating to the Enterprise's assigned hospitals. Manages the timely completion of the Enterprise's of the annual Compliance Plan. 

  • Works with other members of the Enterprise Compliance Office to coordinate oversight and auditing activities at the Enterprise's assigned hospitals, including Accreditation, Patient Financial Services, Revenue Cycle, and Legal. 

  • Addresses the Enterprise's assigned hospitals' related compliance issues that are identified through scheduled monitoring / audits, regulatory changes, or internal / external parties.  Researches the relevant laws / regulations and assess the identified concern through the collection and interpretation of data.  Develops, in coordination with other members of the Enterprise Compliance Office and hospital leaders, an action plan to address the compliance issue and monitors the resolution of the issue.  Ensures that the issue and its resolution are communicated to appropriated parties. 

  • Coordinates, with the AVP of Compliance Audits and Investigations, reviews of the Enterprise's assigned hospitals' billing and other related regulations that are initiated by government agencies and or delegates.  Acts as the primary contact for any federal review of one of the Enterprise's assigned Hospital that requires the Enterprise Compliance Office's involvement.  

  • Communicates findings and reviews results effectively and encourages teammates to report compliance issues to the Enterprise Compliance Office. Assists the Chief Compliance Officer and their designee in communicating issues to the various Hospital and Enterprise Compliance Committees and the Enterprise's Audit and Compliance Committees of the Boards of Directors. Leads the discussion of compliance issues with each of the Enterprise's assigned hospitals' Compliance Committees and appropriate government agencies. 

  • Initiates and reviews Enterprise policies related to compliance with laws and regulations. Assists with the development and review of Enterprise and departmental polices as part of the Enterprise Compliance Office's oversight activities to promote compliance with rules and regulations governing facility services and the billing of said services. Works to implement and educate on relevant Enterprise policies at the assigned hospitals. 

  • Collaborates with Enterprise Compliance Office representatives on the development of training to educate Enterprise teammates regarding relevant compliance and regulatory issues. Oversees the delivery of this training at the Enterprise's assigned hospitals. 

  • Maintains an advanced knowledge of current regulatory activity, hospital and physician reimbursement guidelines, and current issues related to compliance with those guidelines. Analyzes the Enterprise's assigned hospitals' activity for potential concerns related to compliance with rules and regulations. Researches issues raised by teammates and coordinates with other Enterprise Compliance Office leaders and/or other members of the Enterprise's Risk Division to answer questions related to identified compliance concerns. 

  • Completes other projects as assigned by the Chief Compliance Officer and the Deputy Chief Compliance Officer. 

 

Educational Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting, Nursing, or related field with ten years of progressive management and/or supervisory experience in a healthcare provider, with a focus on compliance activities are required. Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or related field preferred.  Certification in Compliance Healthcare (CHC) preferred. 

Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Work is primarily sedentary.

  • Ability to serve as a leader, team player, and independent performer; must be able to facilitate large groups  

  • Extensive working knowledge of CMS (Center for Medicare Services) regulations, particularly related to hospitals
