Histocompatibility Technologist

Performs patient testing for multiple transplant programs under supervision of Laboratory Director and Manager. After completion of training, candidate is expected to fit into lab 24 hour on call rotation. HLA technologist is expected to learn all facets of histocompatibility testing.

Position Highlights

  • Shift Schedule:  Full time Days  - Ability to take 24 hour on call and work independently at all hours
  • Department:  Human Leukocyte Antigen Lab

Education/Experience/Certifications to Qualify:   

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution
  • Master's degree or Doctoral preferred
  • Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) by examination through the Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI) preferred

Essential Functions

  • Performs procedures in accordance with the Histocompatibility Laboratory Procedures Manual. 
  • Demonstrates proficiency with authorized assays.
  • Performs the following tests: Molecular HLA Class I and Class II typing using SSP, Real Time PCR and NGS (Next Generation Sequencing); perform flow cytometric crossmatch; and HLA Class I and Class II antibody identifications using latex bead microarray.
  • Acquires and maintains inventory of supplies, stock, working reagents and equipment required for laboratory work.
  • Maintains laboratory records as required by local, state and federal agencies.
  • Provides direction and guidance to support personnel.
  • Performs other related duties.

Work Environment: Comfortable, well lit, open lab space. Weekly rotation to different benches within the HLA lab.
