Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a skilled Chief Systems Engineer to join our Analysis, Testing & Development Future Vertical Lift (FVL) team supporting the US Army's PEO Aviation/FVL Cross Functional Team in the Huntsville area under BAE Systems IDS Business unit of the Intelligence & Security (I&S) Sector. This effort supports analyses, testing, digital engineering, and development to improve Reliability, Maintainability, Quality, Supportability, and Interoperability (RMQSI) for weapons systems while evaluating new technologies for potential implementation and transitioning and employing Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) within the Enduring and FVL Aviation portfolio.

JOB SUMMARY
The FVL Chief Engineer will provide technical leadership for day-to-day engineering operations. Responsible for providing planning, direction, and coordination of all engineering efforts. This position is responsible for technical performance and engineering costs and schedules and serves as the Contractor's technical spokesperson for projects and/or programs. Advises the Program Manager, Deputy Program Manager, and Government Stakeholders on schedule, budget, and technical priorities for the enduring and FVL weapon systems and associated avionics and missions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research, analyze, and evaluate emerging FVL technologies and tools.
  • Prepare briefings to decision-makers and stakeholders within the DoD and PEO Aviation and FVL enterprise showcasing operational effectiveness and efficiency benefits.
  • Support annual conference with (100-150) USG participants.
  • Produce recommendation reports, analysis of alternatives, and gap analysis of any relevant tools and technology that can aid PEO Aviation for Enduring and FVL missions.
  • Identify current capabilities, deployments, and integrations done through methods such as red teaming and war-gaming simulations, manufacturer inquiries, and tactical and strategic data.
  • Support the customer to identify, plan and manage their capability initiatives, consistent with Program.
  • Identify technology insertion points to ensure technology is consistent with unique project (protection, reliability, MOSA, scalability, etc.) needs.
  • Work with developers to ensure correct application and successful transition of technology.
  • Prepare and present briefings to FVL Program Manager, Deputy Program Manager and others as required.
  • Location is flexible but requires ability to support project team and customer in Huntsville, AL area.
  • Support customer management in coordinating all visits to the contractor facilities.
  • Support the submittal of applicable CDRLs to the Program based off the contractual requirements due dates and milestones.
  • Support planning and briefings to the customer, major stakeholders, and management on the execution of task order activities on the avionic equipment, systems and sub-systems that may impact the warfighter or system with an emphasis on MOSA.
  • Identify and report to program management potential obsolescence issues and provide sound mitigation recommendations and document all coordinated activities.
  • Lead and drive actions and initiatives that improve customer satisfaction

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree with a focus in digital engineering, model based systems engineering, or a related field of study.
  • 12+ years of related, proven experience in technical management overseeing complex, multi-team projects of similar scale as the proposed effort.
  • Direct experience with digital engineering for the development and test and integration of aviation weapon systems.
  • Proven experience leading teams to develop new and existing products, solutions, and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and plan strategically while executing tactically.
  • Experience in a large, complex multifaceted system and system of systems engineering, testing & integration environment.
  • Experience with project logistics by managing and balancing project resources across multiple competing priorities. Including securing adequate resources needed by the teams to meet schedule.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively present complex information to senior leaders with diverse backgrounds.
  • Communicates effectively and accurately convey status and identify, assess, and communicate risks.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to express technical ideas to senior decision makers.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Digital Engineering and Model Based Systems Engineering.
  • Experience analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate or improve existing systems.
  • Experience ensuring developed systems comply with the enterprise technical architecture.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication.
  • Experience working Government/Military programs.
  • Working knowledge of Military Aircraft avionic development and requirements analysis.


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Master's degree with a focus in Avionics Engineering, Digital Systems Engineering, Model Based Systems Engineering, or a related STEM field of study; or a master's degree with a focus in Aerospace, engineering, or a related field of study.
  • 16+ years of related, proven experience in systems engineering or solutions architecture overseeing complex, multi-team efforts of similar scale as the Contractor's proposed effort.
  • Industry certifications.
  • Direct experience with a background in Army Aviation for both Fixed-wing and vertical lift aircraft to include the development of avionic systems and requirements analysis.
  • Working knowledge of military aircraft avionic systems testing or training.
  • Experience managing remote and distributed teams.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • An active Top Secret US Security Clearance with SCI.
  • Experience with US Army or related military experience.
  • Leadership experience.


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $147300 - $250400

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
