We have 2 Principal Machinist opportunities available in our Space and Mission Systems manufacturing facility located in Boulder, Colorado. We machine prototype spaceflight hardware and ground support equipment daily. The machinist position will be required to work independently from complex drawings, sketches, CAD models, and/or verbal instructions to facilitate the manufacture of parts and assemblies by programming, setting up, and operating DMG mills. Collaboration with our lathes and wire EDM teams utilized as support. You will manufacture complex parts made from a variety of materials with exacting tolerances. Detailed documentation as required per our AS9100 quality management system. Solid GD&T understanding. Simultaneous and multi-axis programming with your Mastercam skillset. You'll be working with engineering for design and manufacturing producibility. A real team environment of continued success.

Our machine line up for these needs are the following:

  • DMG DMU 75 being delivered in June, 2024. HSK A63 20,000 RPM spindle. CELOS Siemens 840D controller.
  • (5) DMG CMX 50U multi-axis mills. CT-40 15,000 RPM spindle. Siemens 840D controller.
  • Mazak i-600, CT-40 18,000 RPM spindle.

The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.

What You'll Do:
  • Program, setup and operate DMG DMU-75/CMX-50U/MAZAK i-600 5-axis mills.
  • This is a prototype 1 off machining environment.
  • This is a 1st or 2nd shift opportunity. 2nd shift has a pay differential offered.
  • Mastercam advanced simultaneous programming experience sought for optimal machine utilization.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in team environment and to work independently or with little supervision.
  • Review and interpret electronic build documents for machining requirements including thorough knowledge of GD&T engineering. Solid models (CAD) provided for all builds.
  • Design and fabricate basic to complex holding fixtures for standard and irregular configurations.
  • Use basic inspection equipment to check parts per ANSI Y14.5. We are an AS9100 accredited manufacturing facility.
  • Maintain required electronic build records and process logs, records, and reports in accordance with company policies/procedures and government regulations.
  • May be utilized for working peer support relating to the machining and fabrication of complex hardware.
  • May assist in manufacturing process planning and estimating. Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule with shift selection.
  • Monday – Friday schedule. Typical work hours for 1st shift are 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM and typical work hours for 2nd shift are 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.


Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 10 years or more related experience or a related 2-year technical degree and 8 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Bachelor's or Master's, may substitute for two years of related experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Experience with multi-axis machining.
  • An appreciation for demanding critically tolerance parts to fully support our ever-increasing customer base.
  • A customer driven mindset for their on-time delivery requirements.


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $78000 - $105400

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
