We are looking for a Systems Engineering Section Lead to lead our team of a variety of discipline area engineers that support the Precision Guidance and Sensing Solutions (PGSS) product line in the Precision Strike Business Area. This technically diverse subject matter expert will help grow the PGSS product line by applying BAE Systems' broad technology base to fill real gaps that Department of Defense customers have in the area of smart weapons. The ideal candidate will work with Engineering Leadership and Technical Marketing to assist with the next generation of Precision Guided products. The candidate must be willing to make contributions that routinely span from direct hands-on problem solving and mentorship, to development and achieving respect in peer, customer, supplier, and industry relationships, and helping to shape the long-term strategic direction and objectives of the business area and BAE as a whole through technical expertise

BAE Systems will staff this role in our Huntsville, Alabama facility. Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the PGSS Systems Engineering team:
    • Staffing: Recruit, retain, train, recognize, develop, and assign team members as appropriate to meet business area needs
    • Developing individual and group goals and objectives
    • Communicating flow-down
    • Collecting and providing performance feedback
    • Career mentoring including development of career and training plans
    • Ensuring group members adhere to BAE Systems' cultural principals, policies, and vision
    • Tracking program execution through metrics and technical reviews
    • Providing technical support to programs through proposal and cost estimation reviews, participation in independent design reviews, architecture review boards and other technical reviews
  • Develop a strategy to support business area growth that includes your recommendations on how to:
    • Build and sustain the systems engineering workforce
    • Incorporate industry best practices and new tools and technologies to enhance effectiveness
    • Drive Model Based Engineering initiatives

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Hold an active DoD Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science and 12 years of work experience
  • Engineering background and leadership skills with experience in multiple aspects of the Defense (DoD) product development lifecycle
  • Ability to lead a large organization with diverse cultures and individual differences
  • Proven performance management, mentoring, coaching, and communication skills


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Functional Management Leadership experience (i.e. performance management, staffing)
  • Ability to formulate a strategic vision and define and implement action plans to achieve goals in a changing environment
  • Experience across engineering lifecycle (i.e. requirements analysis, architecture design/development, integration, verification, sell-off, security accreditation, and maintenance)
  • Advanced technical degree or certification relevant to engineering, technical, or business focus
  • Familiarity with payload processing EOIR and RF applications
  • Experience interfacing with internal and external customers
  • Experience developing/reviewing technical and cost artifacts for new business activities
  • Experience supporting Trade Studies, Con Ops development, Cost Account Management, engineering initiatives and agile process application


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $127900 - $217400

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
