We have a machine shop estimating opportunity available in our Space and Mission Systems manufacturing facility located in Boulder, Colorado. We machine prototype spaceflight hardware and ground support equipment daily. You'll collaborate daily with a talented team of journeyman machinist. Lathes, Multi-axis milling and Wire EDM knowledge required for this position. Have the confidence to work with our engineering team for design for manufacturability. Participate in make/buy decisions with our production control team for effective workflow on the shop floor.

The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.

What You'll Do:

  • Maintain a regular 5-day work week schedule. Examples: 6:00-2:30, 7:00-3:30.
  • Constant awareness of WRF (Work Request Form) que.
  • Review and prioritize quotes daily based on need dates and program expedites.
  • Possess the ability to visualize a build working with CAD models using current Mastercam releases.
  • Collaborate directly with machinists for estimates and potential fixturing needs.
  • Determine material size requirements for the WRF to proceed to material procurement.
  • Engage in make/buy decisions with scheduling for manageable work center assignments.
  • Maintain excellent communication with all organizations directly related to the manufacturing floor.
  • Misc. assignments might include material staging support, reassign WO work center selection based on machinist input, and attend pre-engineering development meetings as examples.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled machine shop.

Hourly Rate: $34.13 - $46.15

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 12 years or more related experience or a related 2-year technical degree and 10 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Bachelor's or Master's, may substitute for two years of related experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication, welding, and plating processes. This includes strong familiarity with metals including Aluminum, Invar, Titanium, and Plastics.
  • Solid GD&T understanding on engineering drawings.
  • Computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be self-managed and driven to achieve quality on time deliveries of product.
  • Must be able to effectively participate in a team environment with members from all disciplines.


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Labor estimating in a CNC machine shop environment.
  • Experience with Velocity ERP.


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $71000 - $96000

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
