JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: Under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist, schedules, plans and delivers prescribed occupational therapy treatments, services and home instruction to patients in such areas as daily living, functional mobility, vocational, general musculoskeletal and joint protection. Job is performed appropriately to the needs of the age population served as defined in the department's scope of service.
PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

JOB FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:

1. Provides patient care to patients assigned under the direction of a Registered Occupational Therapist.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Delivers care as defined in age specific plan of care, implements treatment programs based on evaluation results, discharge goals, patient goals.
• Provides patient and family teaching as indicated. Provides home programs.
• Adjusts or modifies patient specific treatment with prior approval of a therapist and adapts environment to facilitate patient's progress.
• Assists in data collection for assessments and reassessments.
• Meets productivity target as defined by department.

2. Documents care provided

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Documents patient records, billing procedures, and productivity management records, according to protocol.
• Adheres to department documentation standards.

3. Promotes team approach in patient care under direction of Registered Occupational Therapist.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
• Works cooperatively with team members to assure a comprehensive interdisciplinary patient program and discharge goals.
• Attends patient related conferences and meetings for patients.
• Participates in discharge planning activities. Makes appropriate recommendations regarding discharge needs and/or equipment needs.
• Recommends to the supervisor/manager equipment that may enhance the Rehab Program.
• Participates in interdisciplinary team conferences and patient planning.

4. Promotes education and participates in department tasks.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
• Provides staff training to promote patient progress re: equipment, transfers, mobility, etc.
• Participates in and/or provides in-services and training for assistants, rehab tech, students, hospital staff, and volunteers and participates in department management tasks.
• Keeps abreast of current/new treatment approaches and/or equipment and recommends to the supervisor/manager equipment and/or supplies that may enhance Rehab Program.
• Works at multiple location sites and multiple clinical areas as needed and attends mandatory meetings.
• Attends continuing education for licensure requirements.

5. Performs other duties and special projects as required.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
• Completes assigned projects by due date.

HIPAA REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Medical records w/o limitation both paper and electronic, patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient information related to surgery or appointment schedules, information related to patient location, religious beliefs and/or public health records, medical records related to quality/data, patient financial information and/or 3rd party billing, patient-related complaints, and/or research information.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient identification, validates, transports, monitors and observes patients for procedures, and monitors clinical alarms



Requirements

SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Current Louisiana licensure as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
Oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
Good organizational skills.
