Position Summary  

The Alumni Relations Manager will play a critical role in establishing and maintaining relationships between Bellevue College and its alumni. This position involves strategizing and implementing interactions, programs and initiatives to engage alumni, foster a sense of community, and encourage enrollments and financial support for Bellevue College.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Position Salary Range: $61,467/year - $86,054/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hires start no higher than $67,614/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. Generous benefits package is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents; choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid holidays, sick, and vacation plans; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position may be eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act; salaries below the WA State Salary Threshold is eligible for overtime pay.

About the Department  

The Institutional Advancement (IA) Division of Bellevue College works across the full academic enterprise to solidify a multi-faceted culture of brand awareness, philanthropy, and internal and external engagement. IA supports the College's mission by increasing awareness of, advocacy for, engagement in, and giving to Bellevue College. As part of the IA division, the Marketing & Communications department is responsible for stewarding the BC brand and driving the college's marketing strategy to increase awareness, support enrollment, and drive community engagement.

Essential Functions  

Marketing and Enrollment:

  • Establish relationships and identify alumni whose stories will promote BC and specific BC programs, encouraging enrollment.
  • Facilitate stories and pull quotes for programs and the college to utilize for marketing collateral and college program websites.
  • Work with the Communications team to pitch news tips and stories about alumni.
  • Identify, write and produce video content for college and program advertising, social media and the web.
  • Maintain a positive and engaging on-line presence.
  • Support the recruitment of Academic Advisory Board Members by identifying alumni as prospects.
  • Utilize various marketing strategies to promote alumni events and initiatives
  • Collaborate with academic programs to ensure alumni engagement is integrated into overall college goals and strategies.
  • Network with alumni, community leaders and potential employers to create opportunities for alumni and current students.

Alumni Engagement:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with alumni through various communication channels, including social media, newsletters and alumni events.
  • Create compelling content for alumni communications, including newsletters, social media posts and website updates.
  • Support the Athletics Hall of Fame.
  • Coordinate and organize alumni events which may include networking events, reunions and professional development workshops.

Program Development:

  • Reinstitute the BC Alumni Association, recruit and secure BCAA Board leadership.
  • Review the bylaws and propose any necessary changes to the Foundation Board of Directors Create and implement alumni engagement programs that align with Bellevue College's goals and objectives.
  • Develop initiatives to involve alumni in mentoring, volunteering and fundraising activities Collaborate with academic departments and other units to develop specialized programs that benefit both alumni and current students.

Fundraising and Development:

  • Work with the Foundation Executive Director to identify potential donors among alumni and engage them in fundraising campaigns
  • Encourage alumni to contribute financially to the institution through donations, scholarships and other giving programs.
  • Working with the Foundation and Student Government, explore the viability of “class of” giving campaigns.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting
  • Support the college social media platforms as well as create and strategically manage social media for the Bellevue College Alumni Association including using analytics to measure success of goals.
  • Support Phase II of the Website Redesign Project, primarily through alumni pull quotes, videos and photos.
  • Maintain an updated alumni database, ensuring accurate contact information and alumni profiles Explore the viability of distinguished alumni and young professionals' groups.
  • Explore the viability of a referral program where alumni are encouraged to refer prospective students.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field. Any combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Minimum Three (3) years of experience in alumni relations, marketing, fundraising, or a related field.
  • Strong commitment to higher education with an understanding of how alumni relations impacts the brand and marketing of the college.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and an understanding of applying DEI into alumni relations work.
  • Demonstrated experience with alumni databases and Customer Relation Management (CRM) software.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and build relationships with diverse groups of people internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in developing engaging alumni programs and events.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data and reporting on engagement metrics.
  • Effective organizational and project management skills.
  • Effective written, verbal, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Proficiency in using alumni databases and CRM software, specifically Raiser's Edge.
  • Direct experience with and commitment to Bellevue College.
