Position Summary  

The Director of Technology Support Services (TSS) oversees the operations of the Technology Support Services department and is responsible for ensuring a customer-focused approach to delivering information technology for Bellevue College (BC). This position provides overall tactical and operational leadership for the Technology Support Services (TSS) Department, directs the strategic design, acquisition, management, and implementation of enterprise-wide technology tools of the college, maintains technology standards for the organization, and manages the activities necessary to keep the technology support operation running seamlessly, efficiently, and effectively while ensuring compliance with established standards and policies. 

As a key member of the Information Technology Service (ITS) Leadership Team, the Director works with the Vice President (VP) of ITS to keep service offerings aligned to the current and projected needs of BC. The Director participates in executive level decisions and execution of strategies to achieve the objectives of ITS. This position reports to the Vice President of Information Technology Services (VP of ITS) and serves as the direct representative of the VP of ITS in various meetings, committee assignments, and conferences as needed.  

This position must have in-depth knowledge of IT Service Management (ITSM/ITIL) strategies, process, policies, project management, budget management, and best practices, and must have demonstrated a strong customer service orientation.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Position Salary Range: $118,403/year - $177,605/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $133,203/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which means that you are not eligible for overtime pay.

About the Department  

Information Technology Service (ITS) supports all campus computing ¿ both academic and administrative. It manages networking and server management, software and application development, data and administrative system support, and the performance and quality of all college websites, and the web portal.

Essential Functions  

Planning and Implementing Technology Support Strategies

  • Develop and execute technology support strategies and roadmaps to meet the evolving needs of Bellevue College (BC), students, faculty and staff.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including college division and department heads, team members, students, faculty and staff through regular meetings to solicit cooperation, plan initiatives, meet customer requirements, communicate new features and resolve problems.
  • Maintain vendor relationships through regular meetings to evaluate changes in their hardware development roadmap to establish and update desktop standards for use by individuals and in classroom/service areas.
  • Attend industry conferences and technical training to stay informed of industry changes and potential value-added support strategies for the college.
  • Maintain and regularly update desktop standards.in coordination with the IT Business Operations team to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and cost-efficiency in IT purchases.

Department and Team Management

  • Recruit, hire and onboard staff, provide ongoing training, coaching and professional development opportunities.
  • Plan and assign work to staff based on department priorities and capacity.
  • Establish team goals and individual performance objectives.
  • Evaluate employee performance, provide constructive feedback, resolve conflicts, and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Promote and participate in team building activities.
  • Foster a work environment that values transparency, accountability and continuous improvement Understand and adapt communication approaches to meet individual styles and ensure clarity and engagement across the team.
  • In conjunction with fellow Directors in IT Services, monitor and mature various internal ITSM processes: incident, problem, and change management.

Organizational Development and Implementation

  • Lead the development and completion of organizational goals, policies, process and procedures for all Technology Support Services team members.
  • Contribute to periodic updates to the IT Strategic Technology Plan (3-5 year).
  • Monitor Technology Support Services budgets and expenditures.
  • Manage operational costs; conduct near- and long-term financial forecasts for expanded functionality.
  • Collaborate with college administrators, supervisors, and with Information Technology System (ITS) managers to create, manage, and enforce IT policies, standards, and protocols.

IT Procurement and Inventory Asset Management

  • Evaluate and recommend off-the-shelf technical solutions that will provide BC¿s students, staff and faculty with the technology and tools they need to further the college¿s mission of student success.
  • Review and improve internal processes, both manual and automated.
  • Document the current state processes and propose improvements.
  • Review off the shelf hardware solutions.
  • Participate in product demonstrations.
  • Verify hardware products meet Bellevue College technical and accessibility standards.
  • Compare and assess products for compatibility with BC¿s technical infrastructure and user needs.
  • Establish and monitor procedures for staff to track and update information to ensure an accurate and complete asset inventory.

Project Management

  • Recommend, design, implement, and manage new projects that improve the College¿s technology services while aligning with the College¿s mission and goals.
  • Identify and prioritize Technology Support Services department work requests.
  • Develop individual work plans for team members.
  • Advocate for the end-user needs throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure project budgets are met and align with campus partnerships and expectations.

Minimum Qualifications  
  • Minimum four (4) years of professional work experience that is relative to scope, functions and responsibilities of the position.
  • Minimum six (6) years of managerial/supervisory experience in the field of Information Technology.
  • Minimum four (4) years' experience implementing, managing, or maturing IT-related processes and practices.
  • Demonstrated effective written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience collaborating with others in an inclusive environment.
  • Experience managing multiple budgets from different funding sources.
  • Technical knowledge of hardware, software compliance and deployment practices.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or closely related field) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum four (4) years of project management experience.
  • Minimum four (4) years managing service delivery via Service Level Agreements.
  • In depth knowledge supporting a diverse computing infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of specific security and data protection policies (FERPA, HIPAA, PII, etc.).
  • Minimum four (4) years of comprehensive administrative level experience in education.
  • In depth knowledge of Learning Management Systems (Canvas).
  • Proven track record of developing high-performance teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to commitment to student success.
