Position Summary  

Under the supervision and guidance of the Title III Director and First-Year Seminar (FYS) Chair this individual will conduct focused outreach to students that have not yet registered for FYS.  This will be accomplished by developing an outreach campaign, making phone calls, sending follow-up emails as necessary, and tracking this into Target X.  The Lead Peer Educator will also serve in a leadership capacity with the other Peer Educators on campus and will be instrumental in representing First-Year Seminar during ATD/Guided Pathways workgroups. The FYS/Lead Peer Educator will also serve an instrumental role in providing feedback on their student experience, current programs, and processes as well as ways to grow enrollment of FYS.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Pay rate: $18/hour.

The successful candidate is expected to work 10-19 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. 

The temporary hourly employment is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per WAC 357-04-045, following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Bellevue College in another temporary part-time hourly position. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.  

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month. Eligible positions are eligible for certain benefits.

About the Department  

The Office of Academic Affairs oversees a variety of academic programs and departments at Bellevue College. Academic Affairs is responsible for supporting student learning and experiences, program initiatives, and academic instruction. This department provides professional development resources for faculty and develops, revises, and implements policies and procedures when needed.

Essential Functions  
  • Regularly monitor Target X, our Customer Relations Management (CRM) tool, to track new and current students that have and have not taken First-Year Seminar, plus it's equivalent.
  • Develop and lead marketing and social media campaigns for the First-Year Seminar to bring increased visibility to the course; collaborate with key stakeholders on projects related to marketing, social media, and the like.
  • Make timely outreach calls to students and send follow-up email communications with FYS-related calls, send emails, and document notes within appropriate databases as well as Target X.
  • Make timely outreach calls to students who are not making satisfactory academic progress; refer students to appropriate resources and send follow-up email communications with needed resources.
  • Establish, maintain, and nurture good relations and communication with the FYS Team, students, and campus partners.
  • Be the face of First-Year Seminar/Lead Peer Educators with faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Interact with students taking the FYS course and provide support to FYS instructors and students.
  • Participate in weekly meetings of all Peer Educators (required as schedule permits).  
  • Participate in periodic FYS meetings (required as schedule permits).
  • Participate in one-on-one meetings with the supervisor and with the FYS Chair.
  • Periodically plan and facilitate Peer Educator Team meetings with supervisor support.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to relate to, help, and support others.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and represent the student's voice.
  • Good analytical and communication skills.
  • Strong collaborative and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to cooperate with others and show flexibility while working on a team.
  • Ability to work remotely via computer hardware and software. 
  • Has satisfactory completed or is currently enrolled in the First Year Seminar course.
