Position Summary  

The Tombolo Institute is currently seeking a skilled and knowledgeable SQL Instructor to join our esteemed faculty. As a SQL Instructor, you will play a vital role in providing our students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to work with databases and effectively utilize SQL for data analysis and manipulation. Join our team to contribute to the delivery of high-quality learning experiences and support the professional growth of individuals in the digital industry.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Instructors is typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.

Pay Range: $41-$71/hr. depending on experience.

Generous benefits package for eligible employees is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents; choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid personal leave plan; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc. Eligible employees are faculty who work a combined load of at least 50% at Bellevue College and other Washington State public institutions of higher education for two consecutive quarters are eligible for health and dental insurance at the start of the second consecutive quarter. 

In addition to teaching, faculty maintains office hours and may participate in department and college activities. This position is represented by the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union.

Essential Functions  
  • Conduct engaging classroom sessions, workshops, and lectures to teach SQL fundamentals, database design, querying, and data manipulation techniques.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrators to develop and refine course materials, including lesson plans, assignments, projects, and assessments.
  • Provide individualized support and feedback to students, helping them develop their SQL skills through hands-on practice, problem-solving, and mentorship.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in SQL and database technologies, and incorporate real-world examples and case studies into the curriculum.
  • Evaluate student work, review projects, and assess performance to maintain high-quality standards and provide constructive feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative learning environment by working with other instructors, subject matter experts, and industry professionals.
  • Pursue continuous learning and professional development opportunities to enhance personal skills and stay current with advancements in SQL and database management.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Practical experience working with SQL, including proficiency in writing complex queries, database design, and data manipulation.
  • Demonstrate understanding of relational database concepts, SQL syntax, and database management systems (DBMS).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain SQL concepts and techniques clearly and effectively.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Teaching, training, or mentoring experience in SQL or related database subjects in a professional or academic setting.
  • Familiarity with additional database technologies and tools such as MySQL, Snowflake, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Demonstrated continuous learning and commitment to staying updated with emerging trends and advancements in SQL and database management.
  • Experience in using learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning tools.
