Position Summary  

The Political Science Program at Bellevue College invites applications for a temporary full-time faculty position for the 2025-26 academic year. We seek a dynamic and student-centered instructor who is committed to excellence in teaching, equity, and community engagement. The successful candidate will teach at least one in-person (on-the-ground) course per week as part of their three courses per quarter load. Applicant must demonstrate the ability to teach Political Science courses to diverse student populations with a special focus on American Government.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Position Salary Range: $81,757.08/year - $114,664.94/year

Annual salary is based on a 176-day contract with a minimum of $81,757.08; beginning salary will be determined by the assessment of the candidate's education and related experience. New hires start no higher than $87,663.74 unless exceptional circumstances prevail. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.

In addition to teaching, full-time faculty maintains office hours and participate in department and college activities. This position is represented by the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union.

About the Department  

The Political Science Department at Bellevue College is committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive learning community that encourages student engagement with the political process. We view the study of political science as essential not only to a well-rounded liberal arts education but also to preparing informed and active participants in both democratic and global citizenship. We offer the foundational courses required for a bachelor¿s degree¿Introduction to Political Science, American Government, Comparative Politics, and International Relations¿regularly. In addition, students can explore specialized topics such as human rights, environmental politics, and gender and sexuality in politics through a variety of rotating electives.

Essential Functions  
  • Teach three courses (with at least one in-person) weekly.
  • Deliver high-quality instruction in Political Science with a special focus on American Government.
  • Provide accessible and inclusive learning environments for students of diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities.
  • Support the college¿s mission to serve an open-access, multicultural student population.
  • Integrate institutional commitments to student success into teaching practices and course design.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, assessments, and other service activities.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Master¿s degree or higher in Political Science or a related field with a political science emphasis; or a Juris doctor (J.D) with a political focus from an accredited academic institution (applicants should explain the applicability of a related discipline in their cover letter).
  • Experience teaching Political Science or a related interdisciplinary field with a political focus.
  • Ability to teach a range of courses within Political Science¿s various sub fields with a special emphasis on American Government.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the community college mission and open-access education.
  • Experience working with students of varied preparedness levels and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students and colleagues from diverse communities.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Ph.D. (or ABD) in Political Science or a related discipline from an accredited institution (applicants should explain the applicability of a related discipline in their cover letter).
  • Record of successful teaching at the college level in Political Science or a related field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and community engagement efforts inside and outside the classroom.
  • Familiarity with a variety of teaching modalities and platforms, including online, hybrid, and face-to-face instruction.
  • Demonstrated commitment to shared governance, collaboration, and continuous professional development.
