PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The purpose of this position is to supervise the Volunteer Services Department (Auxiliary) personnel including the primary responsibility for all in-service volunteers throughout the organization. Also provides direction, coordination and consultation for all volunteer services programs within the organization. Plans, develops, and manages volunteer services so that the organization will derive full benefit from the important resources available to it through a consistently well-managed corps of volunteers that will be a valuable resource in achieving the organization's mission.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Duty 1: Maintaining and growing the volunteer base. Evaluates the need for volunteer services within the organization in conjunction with the requesting department.

Duty 2: Directs the recruitment, interviewing, selection and placement of volunteers to meet the organization's needs.

Duty 3: Develops goals and objectives for the volunteer services department and monitors progress toward their achievement.

Duty 4: Directs the maintenance of the departmental manual containing policies and procedures and reviews the material periodically in order to make necessary revision on a timely basis.

Duty 5: Directs the development of written assignment descriptions and procedures for volunteer guidance and coordination of volunteer services.

Duty 6: Serves as a consultant to administration and other departments in areas relating to volunteerism.

Duty 7: Directs the development of appropriate recognition, retention and motivation programs for volunteers.

Duty 8: Plans and schedules volunteer service placements and changes in assignments.

Duty 9: Maintains appropriate volunteer personnel records and reports to document volunteer services and hours.

Duty 10: Supervisor over gift shop personnel.

Duty 11: Maintain and cultivate fundraising activities and events to increase the tangible support from the volunteers in conjunction with the board.

Duty 12: Attend board meetings. Active liaison between the volunteer board and BVHS.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field or 3-5 years management experience.

  • A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state).  You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.

  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.

     

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience with volunteer program coordination and managing volunteers

     

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit continuously for six hours a day and stand for one hour a day. The individual must be able to lift twenty to fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity for simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle for business travel and community involvement.
