Position Summary:
We are seeking a visionary Sr Product Development Architect to lead the modernization, strategic direction, and engineering excellence of our enterprise mainframe environment. This individual will serve as a technical authority and strategic partner to senior leadership, bringing deep expertise in mainframe infrastructure, systems engineering, and modernization practices. The Senior Architect will play a key role in enabling resilience, performance, scalability, and cost optimization across mission-critical workloads.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership & Strategy
- Define and lead the mainframe and DevX technology roadmap, aligning with enterprise architecture and business goals.
- Serve as the primary SME on z/OS, COBOL, CICS, DB2, IMS, DevX, and related technologies.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders to design and implement hybrid cloud integration and modernization initiatives.
- Engineering Excellence
- Lead architectural reviews and provide governance on high-impact mainframe projects.
- Oversee system reliability, availability, and disaster recovery design.
- Innovation & Modernization
- Identify and evaluate opportunities to modernize legacy applications (e.g., APIs, replatforming, DevOps for mainframe).
- Guide the adoption of emerging tools such as z/OSMF, Ansible, OpenShift on Z, or Zowe.
- Mentorship & Influence
- Coach and mentor senior engineers and architects across infrastructure and application teams.
- Influence enterprise-wide engineering practices, code quality, and system standards.
- Governance & Risk
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, regulatory, and audit frameworks relevant to mainframe operations (e.g., SOX, PCI, HIPAA).
- Support risk mitigation and operational excellence through proactive design and automation.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 15+ years of hands-on experience with mainframe systems and architecture, including:
- IBM zSeries platforms (e.g., z15/z16)
- z/OS, JES2/3, TSO, ISPF, VTAM, RACF
- COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2
- Java and related DevX Technologies
- Demonstrated leadership in designing and scaling enterprise-wide mainframe solutions.
- Proven track record in performance tuning, capacity planning, and workload automation.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise security, encryption, and access control on mainframe platforms.
- Familiarity with DevOps pipelines and automation tools applicable to the mainframe (e.g., Git, Jenkins, UrbanCode, BMC, CA tools).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence C-level executives and technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with hybrid cloud integration (AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud with z/OS Connect, Red Hat OpenShift).
- Involvement in major replatforming, refactoring, or application modernization programs.
- Certifications such as IBM Certified System Programmer, IBM Z Mainframe Professional, or TOGAF.
- Contributions to the broader mainframe community (e.g., SHARE, Open Mainframe Project, whitepapers).
