Education: Associate or Bachelor's Degree from an ARRT approved/accredited program in Radiologic Technology or Limited Radiologic Technology

Certificates/License: Valid, current State of Iowa Permit to Practice and ARRT certification or registry eligible

Experience: Hospital based experience preferred.

Position Summary: Operates radiologic equipment to produce radiographs (x-rays) of the human body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the Radiologist. Moves x-ray equipment into specified positions and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors. Explains procedure to patient to reduce anxiety and obtain patient cooperation. Monitors accessory equipment and assist the physician special radiographic procedures. Perform the described duties in the primary work area and demonstrate competency in orthopedic radiology, pediatric radiology, trauma radiology and diagnostic radiology.  In addition to meeting competency requirements for work in more than one primary work area must serve as a super user for various radiology initiatives.

Duties Include:

  1. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to assist in providing care appropriate to the age of the patient served (Neonate to Geriatric) within the department (refer to the Scope of Practice and Staffing guidelines in the department Plan of Care).

  2. Maintain performance in compliance with State and Federal laws, consistent with high standards of business and professional ethics. Follows Policies and Procedures of Hospital and Department.

  3. Practice radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff. Practice good Quality Control. 

  4. Assist department in developing new protocols and imaging techniques (digital imaging, PACS) for use in diagnostic radiology. Able to assist with clerical duties of the department. Computer literacy attainable.

  5. Match appropriate paperwork for interpretation. Change radiographic procedures, able to modify orders. Understands and uses PACS systems. Conduct scheduling and coordination of patient flow for work are or shift.

  6. Provide education and training to affiliated radiology technology student programs.

  7. Assist with patient transportation as necessary.

  8. Maintain effective communication with all levels of supervision and staff.
