Manager, Network Services

Office of Information Technology

The Manager oversees all aspects of the operation and maintenance of network devices and systems that support data network services at the university. This includes budget development/tracking, design, configuration, implementation, ongoing support/troubleshooting, and refresh for all network equipment, management/monitoring systems, and services. Services include wired and wireless data networks, Internet and Internet2 connectivity, Domain name services, VoIP transport, Disaster Recovery networking, and Cloud service connectivity.

The Manager collaborates on Facilities projects to ensure renovation and new construction projects are prioritized and completed on time. Responsibilities include overseeing the development of estimates, ordering equipment, and coordinating the installation and turn-up of services.

Budget responsibilities include developing projections for equipment refresh to align with end-of-life cycles, yearly maintenance/support review, and maintaining appropriate inventory levels.

Operational responsibilities include overseeing the handling of ticket requests, process improvement, and ensuring positive customer outcomes. This would also include overseeing the handling of TAC cases opened with our vendors to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner as well as ensuring that the on-call rotation is properly staffed and process and procedures are followed during on-call incidentes.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in an Information Technology field. 

  • Lead or supervisory experience required. 

  • Prior experience in a data networking field is desired.  

  • In- depth knowledge of network and security products and technologies.

  • Demonstrated experience leading a network team to support enterprise-class networks.

  • Advanced experience in data center networking, disaster recovery, cloud computing, and wired and wireless networks.

  • Moderate experience working with enterprise security products and security engineers to support firewalls, IDS/IPS, packet capturing tools, logging, and monitoring.

  • Experience supporting IPAM solutions including DNS and DHCP for both IPv4 and IPv6.

  • Some experience with network automation tools and techniques using scripts or systems designed for scheduling and execution of repetitive tasks. 

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills are required.  

  • Strong negotiation skills and flexibility to successfully interact with the diverse constituency of network users, vendors and senior management preferred.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize activities.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills. 

  • This position must be able to independently lead cross-functional project teams to implement or support complex systems and applications.

  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.

​Successful completion of a criminal background check and education verification is required. This position is also subject to Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) requirements.
