The John Carter Brown Library at Brown University is a world renowned center for research focused on the early Americas (15th-19th centuries) and based on its exceptional collections; the JCB supports research and researchers through its digital initiatives, fellowships and programs including for Brown faculty and students and communities locally and around the world.

The John Carter Brown Library (JCB) seeks a Rare Material Research and Reference Librarian to join its outstanding team. Reporting to the Assistant Librarian for Research and Reference Services, the Rare Material Research and Reference Librarian's primary responsibility will be close attention to the needs of readers in the JCB Reading Room and their use of rare materials, including paging, instructing on the careful use of, and then re-shelving those materials.  The Rare Material Research and Reference Librarian will work in close coordination with the reading room staff as well as curators to facilitate research from fellows, other readers, staff and students.

Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of experience in an academic library, public library, school library or other cultural heritage or educational institution with a library setting.
  • Experience with public service, reference service, customer service, or other similar work.
  • Successful experience working directly with diverse audiences.
  • Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.
