Job Title: 1.0 CTE Guidance Counselor

The District wide CTE Career Guidance Counselor helps students plan their learning and assists them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women.  Position requires knowledge of career and college readiness, matriculation options to all post-secondary, academic scheduling, academic counseling, district test schedules, community outreach, and knowledge of a trauma-sensitive school model. Knowledge of SEL and ACES preferred. Position also requires the ability to effectively collaborate with all district counselors on such things as student participation/registration for large out of school district-wide events and communication of CTE scholarships and work-based learning opportunities. 

Job Description and Affiliated Tasks:

  • Responsible for all District-Wide Capstone Classes – scheduling and Counselor support
  • Create and disseminate all information concerning CTE programs, courses and special events to all Counselors and Administration
  • Facilitate and maintain all District-Wide courses - advertisement, applications, concurrent enrollments and rosters of students across the District
  • Maintain and build CTE School Synergy database and Course Master for all CTE students
  • Special Projects – plan, organize, advertise (in individual schools and with our PIO on social media), Transportation - build rubric/order buses/distribute transportation schedules working directly with Transportation Department, attend each event as Project Manager
  1. Alaska Business Week – May/June (planning February – event)
  2. Summer Student Worker positions – June/July (planning starts in Jan/Feb and includes interviews for hiring)
  3. College and Career Fair – October (planning starts in early spring)
  4. Construction Career Day - planning and facilitation district-wide (April/May)
  5. CTE Enrollment Reports  – major excel spreadsheet done by semester
  6. Health Programs Forum & College of Engineering/Comp Sci Showcase @ Mat-Su College – February or March (planning committee starts in the fall)
  7. Employer Expo – March (planning begins in the fall)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant students - process and maintain records for Background Check and security clearance on AK Background Check System
  • Write Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) all Certified Nursing Assistant Clinical sites – in coordination with Risk Management
  • Write Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AK Dept of Forestry for Wildland Firefighting program
  • Meet with CTE teachers individually – as requested
  • Previously: Attended Alaska CAN, Perkins Workshop, AKSCA Conference, ACTE Conference & State CTE meetings – Business Partnership Committee meetings
  • Assist with District-Wide Program of Studies
  • Former District AKCIS Coordinator – PLCP's (may be reinstated with current staff changes)
  • CTE Shuttle – Student transportation project (build rubric/order buses/distribute transportation schedules across the District and community wide) for district-wide programs
  • Previously assisted with 8th grade site visit tours of CTHS from core middle schools 
Credential Requirements:
Type A required, Type C with counseling endorsement recommended.
