As an HR Compliance Specialist under the supervision of the Sr. Manager, HR Compliance, the HR Compliance Specialist will ensure the organization adheres to all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. This involves monitoring legal changes, developing and implementing compliance policies, providing employee training, investigating and resolving compliance issues, and maintaining accurate records to protect the company from legal risks and ensure fair treatment of employees.
How You Will Impact Education
Utilize HRIS systems and processes to ensure compliance with workflows and that associated documents follow hiring procedures. These documents include, but are not limited to, job descriptions, offers, licensure, resumes, applications, and background checks. Lead and participate in internal and external audits. Conduct risk assessments and ensure that processes meet compliance requirements. Create and revise company policies, SOPs, and procedures to align with legal requirements and prevent non-compliance issues. Manage and deliver training programs for employees and managers on compliance topics, including anti-discrimination laws, workplace safety, and leave management. Use the Vector Platform. Stay informed about changes in employment laws and regulations, such as ACA, ADA, and ERISA. Ensure legal posters are updated and maintained in appropriate locations. Perform accurate and prompt data entry and record keeping in databases and spreadsheets. Review and approve background checks and the fingerprinting process. Provide oversight for the E-Verify and Onboarding process for the organization.
Maintain accurate employee records. These include I-9 forms, right-to-work documents, and other compliance-related paperwork. Respond to inquiries and requests sent to Departmental Compliance inboxes. Participate in projects and maintain HR Compliance documentation, tools, and resources. Assist with the garnishment, unemployment, employment verifications, and overpayment process.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Proficient in collaboration and communication across all levels, fostering strong working relationships. Detail-oriented, highly organized, and adept at time management. Proven ability to deliver high-quality work consistently in fast-paced environments. Skilled in analyzing data and interpreting requirements accurately. Maintains discretion and confidentiality. Possesses a basic understanding of relevant state and federal employment, labor, and compliance regulations. Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, concurrent, cross-functional workstreams (Payroll, HRIS, Benefits, Employee Relations). Proficient in MS Office and office equipment (photocopier, scanner, etc.). Excellent presentation and customer service skills.

Job Requirements
A bachelor's degree in human resources, Legal Studies, or Business from an accredited institution is required, along with at least four years of experience in compliance, legal, or human resources roles. Experience in K-12 education and familiarity with ADP are preferred.

Physical Demands
This role does not require significant physical exertion. Occasional travel of up to 10% may be necessary. The position involves light work, which includes lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds as needed.
