Circle K is a leader in the convenience store space and has built a network of 17,500 stores worldwide primarily through acquisitions and new to industry builds.  We are looking to broaden our pathways for investment by adding Business Development capabilities to our team.  This position is charged with identifying and originating new investment opportunities across several segments of our business and will play an integral leadership role on the investment team. Led by the company's overall strategy, this position will lead all aspects of opportunity development and/or transactions, from initial identification and screening to origination, business case development, post-closing management and monitoring. As such, the position is a critical interface between several functional areas within the firm including Operations, the Circle K Venture Fund, Legal, Finance and senior management.

Responsibilities include:

  • Initiate and leverage an active dialog with owner/executive contacts at target companies identified as attractive acquisition candidates and/or influential referral sources
  • Build and leverage a network of referral sources in the retail industry including car wash, traditional and emerging convenience, e-mobility, cannabis amongst others;
  • Attend industry conferences and events to build awareness of Circle K's presence and capabilities;
  • Build comprehensive plan to identify files that both complement existing geographies and core capabilities and seed a wider strategy in new geographies or adjacent capabilities
  • Closes new business deals by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts; and integrating contract requirements with business operations.
  • Review offering memorandums and other diligence materials to identify attractive investment opportunities worthy of further pursuit by Circle K
  • Facilitate direct follow-up with, and active feedback to acquisition candidates, deal broker, or referral source
  • Assist in the preparation and development of business models, risk identification, industry research, valuation assessment, and development of investment narrative for formal presentation to the Investment Committee
  • Assist in final due diligence, negotiation of the definitive agreement, coordination of legal counsel and third party diligence providers


Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in oil and gas, real estate or convenience store industry
  • 5+ years of experience in M&A or corporate development with experience in transaction underwriting and deal structuring preferred,
  • Strong interpersonal skills,
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with equal ability to communicate well with colleagues at all levels
  • Personal integrity, honesty and desire to work as one team
  • Proven ability to initiate, manage and close multiple high priority projects
  • Strong understanding of finance and accounting,
  • Analytical and detail-oriented,
  • Strong work ethic with high desire to succeed, and
  • Demonstrated commitment to life balance
  • This position requires travel up to 50% of the time (typically less than 20%)
