BUSINESS CONTROLS MANAGER-TECHNOLOGY RISK AND COMPLIANCE WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

This 1LOD role, within Technology & Innovation, will support the Compliance Management System (CMS) process, with a focus on compliance issue management, regulatory change management, reporting and governance, compliance training, and ensuring procedures are updated in response to changes in laws, rules, and regulations. In addition to CMS responsibilities, this role is accountable for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and reporting key risks. It supports operations managers in overseeing business risks and controls, coordinating risk registers, and contributing to the overall Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA). The role also collaborates with business partners and risk teams to prepare for audits, testing, and other risk-related activities. By providing risk management expertise and partnering with operations managers and second-line risk teams, this role helps strengthen risk awareness and proactive risk management within the business unit. Though you will be supporting compliance (2LOD) requirements, this is a role within 1LOD.

BAU responsibilities will also include identifying, assessing, monitoring, and reporting all key risks for business units within T&I. Assists operations managers with monitoring of business risks and controls. Coordinates Risk Registers to support the overall Risk and Control Self-Assessment. Will work with business partners and risk units, to help prepare for testing , audits and other related risk activities. Provides risk management expertise while working with operations managers and other 2nd line risk partners (to include Operational and Enterprise Risk Management teams, Regulatory Compliance, Business Continuity, IT Risk, Third Party Risk, Corp. Security, etc.). Also responsible for promoting risk awareness within their own Business Unit.

What you will do
  • Responsible for the partnership and support in development and implementation of new programs/strategies, implementation of regulation, rules, and risk management requirements.
  • Analyze, evaluate and periodically review current risk management practices across the organization, including activities at network affiliates. Collaborate closely with colleagues across the 2nd and 3rd lines to strengthen the control environment and enhance risk management practices.
  • Analyze and evaluate data that effects the technical, operational, and business functions and provide insight to the practical impacts/implications to the business line.
  • Execute essential risk program functions, including Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSA's), Key Risk Indicators (KRI's), Issue Management, Operational Losses, and more. Provide informed and valuable risk and control perspectives other members of the Business Control team and Business Units.
  • Contribute to the development of a robust risk culture, risk conduct, and risk literacy within the first line of defense, including design and implementation of preventive and detective controls relating to Risk Management activities.
  • Participate in conducting research, analyzing, and interpreting data and information to support strategies, initiatives, organizational planning, and business model adjustments.
  • Act as the business teams' liaison for business line risk management, compliance activities, legal engagement, and internal or external audits.
  • Act as a liaison representing Business Control Office at both internal and external meetings; establishing and cultivating strong working relationships with all stakeholders. Attend meetings with and/or in place of SVP BCO, provide feedback and escalate decision.
  • Build and sustain effective relationships and alliances both internally and across all lines of business and staff areas to help deliver results and to ensure opportunities are identified, analyzed and managed appropriately. Understand interdependencies to achieve success.
  • Partner with team members to contribute concise communication materials for senior management. Develop presentations for internal and external meeting that are compelling, concise, and graphical to convey message.
  • Prioritize organizational risk management objectives.
  • Direct and participate in special projects as necessary.
  • Facilitate audit and examination activities.
  • Cultivate and grow risk talent within the organization through coaching, mentoring, and occasionally assisting with review of applicable training.
  • Provide oversight, advice, and training related to the bank's Compliance Management System (CMS) for Corporate Functions, including Human Resources, Finance, Risk Management, Technology, Administration, and others as appropriate
  • Support the implementation of the Compliance Oversight and Advisory program, including the annual validation of the inventory of laws, rules, and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Participate in meetings, including preparing and presenting materials
  • Perform continuous monitoring of all Function's adherence to the Compliance Framework
    Assist with drafting reports and corrective action/remediation plans by providing monitoring observations and findings including any gaps in compliance with Bank policies and standards
  • Maintain adequate workpapers to support the timely and effective response to requests from Internal Audit or external regulators
  • Contribute to the review and challenge of regulatory controls
  • Create and maintain procedures for the Compliance team and for key stakeholders across Functions to execute on their Compliance responsibilities
  • Prepare and present information and training sessions based on the core elements of the Compliance Framework
  • Comply fully with all Bank policies and procedures as well as all regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in special projects or assignments, as needed

Must-Have*

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 8-10 years managing projects
  • Minimum 8-10 years within or related to financial services

Skills and Knowledge

  • MBA, JD, or other advanced degree (e.g., JD, MBA, Masters, etc.) preferred
  • 8 years of experience managing projects
  • 7 years in a role requiring complex problem solving
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills - and ability to interact with colleagues at all levels in a peer-like way, and achieve goals without direct control over resources
  • Strong emerging end-to-end generalist problem solving skills, e.g.,
  • Defining and deconstructing problems
  • Prioritizing issues and analysis
  • Structuring and building quantitative and qualitative/conceptual analyses
  • Knowledge in Financial Services, Project Management
  • Demonstrated ability to Influence change, build relationships, communicate effectively, work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and deliver high caliber results.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills and ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Diverse problem solving experience
  • An outstanding ability to analyze problems, apply quantitative analytical approaches, communicate effectively and confidently (both oral and written), work well in cross-functional teams
  • Quick learning ability, outstanding analytical skills and a structured way of thinking, your attention to details is exceptional
  • Operate well under stress, even faced with tight timelines for ambitious deliverables Significant experience in driving operational change with front line to senior leadership personnel
  • Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills
  • Be able to handle uncertainty well, and are able to simplify complexity

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU? Compensation Starting base salary: $99,000- 176,000 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
