MANAGER NATIONAL ESTATE SETTLEMENT SERVICES
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? This position is responsible for the supervision of estate settlement officers and support staff across the country. As manager, the colleague will have oversight for all administration and distribution of estate/trust assets held within an administrative trust or probate. The manager will provide guidance and set service standard with regards to family meetings, marshalling and valuing of assets, claims and expenses, preparation of estate and other required returns; and oversees the distribution of assets.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
- Supervise of all estate settlement Officers and support staff across the country for both CNB and RBC DE accounts.
- Assign goals and responsibilities to the ESS staff to meet the divisional strategy as set by the Head of Trust and Estates.
- Educate and train the sales team on the ESS solution.
- Identify and maintain appropriate workloads for ESS staff across the bank's footprint.
- Conduct performance appraisals, makes hiring and termination decisions in consultation with the Head of Trust and Estate.
- May manage the larger, more complex probate estates and deceased grantor trusts.
- Confer with clients, administrators, co-trustees, beneficiaries and attorneys regarding the establishment, administration and operation of estates as required by the LOB.
- Ensure all tax liabilities and obligations of assigned accounts within the Bank's footprint.
- Analyze NEW ESS opportunities to determine appropriateness of duties and responsibilities of the company.
- Establish, maintain, and revise appropriate service delivery for ESS accounts.
- Develop an ESS checklist to ensure timely completion of account settlement, with equal consideration to mitigating risk and liability for the Bank.
- Establish, and update as needed, a desktop process for all administration matters related to ESS and terminating accounts.
- Direct and provide guidance to ESS and Trust colleagues of reviews and proposals for consideration to various committees as part of on-going ESS administration.
- Provide guidance and review of all proposed ESS distributions prior to submission to CFO or Head of Trust and Estate.
- Develop and retain professional COI contacts to further professional and community engagement for CNB/RBC DE.
- Ensure that Fiduciary Polices, Programs, and procedures are followed by ESS and Trust colleagues working with ESS accounts.
- Stay abreast of new developments pertaining to trust regulation, market strategies and competitive positioning.
- Interface with compliance, risk and audit internal teams to address, identify and resolve issues.
- Increase estate revenue by developing and maintaining partnerships with internal Trust Team, Private Bankers, and through referrals from other business lines.
- Participate in business development and sales activities offering Estate Settlement expertise.
- Coordinate communication between clients, external attorneys and with internal business partners (Tax, Compliance, Real Estate), to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient administration and to manage business risk.
- Build and maintain relationships with external business partners (Attorneys and CPAs) and other organizations to promote awareness of Estate Settlement Services.
- Oversee a book of terminating/closing trusts as assigned by Fiduciary Division (CNB and RBC DE) and serves as the primary resource for communication to assigned accounts.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
- 10 years of experience in trust administration
- 10 years of experience in a financial or legal services organization
- Completion of Trust Certificate and/or CTFA preferred
- 10+ years of experience in trust administration
- 10+ years of experience in a financial or legal services organization
- Advanced degree and/or certifications preferred
- Has comprehensive knowledge of estate settlement, gifting, income, estate and generation skipping taxation and trusts (revocable and irrevocable).
- Knowledgeable about banking products, financial planning and insurance services.
- Excellent interpersonal and technical skills
- Demonstrates excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Computer proficiency in Word and Excel
- JD, LLM or other legal designation/degree preferred
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU? Compensation Starting base salary: $127,626 - $237,014 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
