SENIOR BUSINESS CONTROLS MANAGER WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
The Senior Business Control Manager will report into the Business Control Officer of Commercial Banking to manage and participate in the team that will design, maintain, implement, manage and enhance the capital markets first line risk program for four separate line verticals (Foreign Exchange, Interest Rate Risk Management, Syndications, and Global Trade and Supply Chain Finance (GTS) ), ensuring adherence with all applicable laws, regulations, regulatory guidance, policies and procedures with respect to all such capital markets activity at CNB. CNB Capital Markets activity is conducted under bank permissible activities, not under registered swap dealer or broker dealer activity. This role is responsible for ongoing monitoring, identification and reporting of risk findings to senior management and remedial corrective actions through risk and control testing programs and conducting risk assessments as well as gap analysis against regulatory guidance, best practices and policies and procedures. This role will work closely with colleagues across CNB three lines of defense and parent entity, Royal Bank of Canada.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?- Responsible for the development and implementation of new programs/strategies, implementation of regulation, rules, and risk management requirements.
- Advocating for a strong capital markets first line risk program, with a focus on applicable laws, regulations and other guidance related to business and operational activities throughout the Business Unit.
- Manage the team and assist in the development, implementation, administration, and monitoring of controls, processes, and procedures, that ensure the Business Unit complies with laws, regulations, regulatory guidelines, regulatory/market guidance and policies and procedures.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of existing processes and recommend new processes that most effectively anticipate, manage, and reduce risk to the assigned business.
- Manage the team conducting Risk Assessments to identify various risk exposure across OCC risk stripes and help the division prioritize such exposures.
- Supports the timely and effective resolution of issues and implementation of recommendations identified through 1st, 2nd, 3rd LOD and external regulatory examinations, monitoring and testing.
- Analyze findings and perform root cause analysis, distinguishing between various levels of compliance and other types of risk.
- Prepare and support corrective action plans with business lines and validate implementation. Identify and assist in resolving compliance and control issues.
- Maintain subject matter expertise and understanding of the laws, rules and regulations with which the Business Unit must comply and an awareness of issues of recent regulatory focus.
- Identify and measure risk issues and escalate to leadership, as well as the 2nd Lines of Defense, as necessary.
- Assess risk issues presented through complex new/revised product and service offerings and work closely with senior leaders of business units to plan a response.
- Ensure Business Unit adheres to all Bank policies and procedures as well as all regulatory requirements (e.g. OCC regulations, SR11-10, Volcker, CFTC, etc.).
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
- Minimum 10-12 years managing projects
- Minimum 10-12 years within or related to financial services
- MBA, JD, or other advanced degree (e.g., JD, MBA, Masters, etc.) preferred
- 8-10 years of experience managing projects
- 8-10 years in a role requiring complex problem solving
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills - and ability to interact with colleagues at all levels in a peer-like way, and achieve goals without direct control over resources
- Strong emerging end-to-end generalist problem solving skills, e.g.,
- Defining and deconstructing problems
- Prioritizing issues and analysis
- Structuring and building quantitative and qualitative/conceptual analyses
- Knowledge in Financial Services, Project Management
- Demonstrated ability to Influence change, build relationships, communicate effectively, work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and deliver high caliber results.
- Proficiency with MS Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills and ability to balance multiple priorities.
- Diverse problem solving experience
- An outstanding ability to analyze problems, apply quantitative analytical approaches, communicate effectively and confidently (both oral and written), work well in cross-functional teams
- Quick learning ability, outstanding analytical skills and a structured way of thinking, your attention to details is exceptional
- Operate well under stress, even faced with tight timelines for ambitious deliverables Significant experience in driving operational change with front line to senior leadership personnel
- Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills
- Be able to handle uncertainty well, and are able to simplify complexity
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU? Compensation Starting base salary: $127,626 - $237,014 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
