The City of Edmonton's Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) is seeking a visionary and experienced leader to join our team as the Head of Emergency Analytics to lead the EFRS analytics program and the Analytics & Quality Improvement team. As a key member of the Fire Executive Team, the Head of Emergency Analytics & Quality Improvement will manage a team of four Public Safety Business and Data Analysts. This role involves overseeing the entire data science lifecycle within EFRS, with a focus on developing and implementing modern approaches to advanced modeling and analysis. The Head will be responsible for translating complex, predictive insights into actionable strategies that align with organizational goals and ethical standards.


The successful candidate will cultivate relationships with other municipal fire services, vendors, and external partners. This leadership position requires the ability to identify and drive initiatives that improve efficiency, demonstrate strong business acumen and provide effective decision support in a complex environment.


What will you do?

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of Public Safety Business and Data Analysts, overseeing recruitment, performance management, and professional development
  • Drive data and analytics initiatives within EFRS, conducting current state analysis and providing expert advice on data sources and reporting capabilities
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including IT, AHS, and EPS, to develop and implement data-driven solutions for complex, cross-sectional problems
  • Oversee the entire data science lifecycle, from advanced modeling to translating insights into actionable strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and ethical standards
  • Develop and implement strategies for effective performance measurement, quality assurance, and continuous improvement within the branch
  • Provide strategic advice to senior management on the implementation and application of data and analytics to support decision-making
  • Manage and monitor project progress, ensuring initiatives are completed on time, within budget, and to a defined scope and quality
  • Foster a continuous improvement culture, contributing to the design and implementation of services and processes across the branch
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with projects and data integrity, especially concerning critical decisions affecting life, property, and the environment
