Description

Make your favourite place your workplace!

Are you an experienced safety and security professional who values the power of community and a people-first approach? If your answer is a resounding “YES!”, consider joining EPL as our Library Safety and Security Advisor. In this role, you'll support the safety and security of 21 library branches while upholding EPL's community-led philosophy. This means not only safeguarding our spaces but also fostering positive relationships with our many diverse communities.

Reporting to the Manager, Safety and Security, you will lead the day-to-day security operations that keep our spaces safe and welcoming. This includes overseeing contracted security services, coordinating incident response, and supporting the effective use of security technologies, including alarms and CCTV. Your responsibilities will also include assessing risks, investigating incidents, and contributing to the development and implementation of effective, people-centered security strategies.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating security operations across all EPL locations, ensuring timely, appropriate responses to incidents while keeping the needs and experiences of our community at the forefront.
  • Overseeing the performance of contracted security services to ensure high-quality, values-aligned support that reflects EPL's mission.
  • Conducting proactive security assessments and supporting ongoing improvements to systems and protocols based on emerging risks.
  • Investigating security incidents and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to resolve concerns quickly and thoughtfully.
  • Working closely with the Manager, Safety and Security to continuously improve our safety practices and community engagement strategies.
  • Leading training for staff and security personnel, with a strong focus on de-escalation, conflict resolution, and creating inclusive, respectful environments.
  • Providing strategic input on security matters while nurturing positive relationships with community partners, including the Edmonton Police Service and City of Edmonton Peace Officers.
