The City of Edmonton is excited to announce an opening for a Planner II in our Urban Growth and Open Space section within the Planning and Environment Services branch. This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with a diverse range of internal departments and external partners and collaborators to ensure that school and community parks are ready to support the development of new schools in alignment with the Government of Alberta's School Construction Accelerator Program. As an Open Space Planner II, you will be at the forefront of developing and implementing policies that guide Edmonton's growth and development. Your expertise will contribute to creating sustainable and inclusive communities through effective land use, active transportation, and open space planning.
What will you do?
- Shape Edmonton's future: Play a key role in developing impactful policies and procedures that guide the city's growth and development in areas like land use, environmental sustainability, and open space planning. - Be a planning expert: Utilize your advanced knowledge of land use, active transportation, environmental, and open space policy, applying the latest best practices to shape municipal services and enhance parks and recreation. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving positive change
- Lead transformative projects: Showcase your project management skills by leading projects from start to finish including defining scope and managing schedules to ensure successful project outcomes
- Collaborate and coordinate: Work with diverse teams to support the development of plans and procedures specific to school and community park development. You'll facilitate engagement across City Departments, identifying key opportunities for coordination and maximizing impact
- Communicate effectively: Utilize your exceptional written and verbal communication skills to clearly and professionally convey information to a variety of audiences
- Provide expert guidance: Serve as a trusted subject matter expert, offering valuable advice and information on land use, active transportation, environmental, and open space planning to major department and corporate projects
- Inform decision-making: Conduct thorough research and analysis to provide timely and accurate information to City Council, Senior Administration, City staff, external agencies, media, and the public, addressing inquiries with tailored responses. Your insights will support informed decision-making at all levels
