Description

The City of Edmonton is looking for dedicated individuals to join our Parks & Roads Services team as a Pest Control Operator. If you have a passion for environmental stewardship and enjoy working outdoors in a dynamic, hands-on capacity, this is an incredible opportunity to make a tangible impact on the well-being of our community.

As a Pest Control Operator, you will utilize Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques to manage pests that may cause structural damage or threaten our local ecosystem. Your work will span various environments, from protecting the urban forest and managing mosquito populations to addressing structural pests within City facilities. You will be responsible for the mechanical control, physical removal, and judicious chemical application of pesticides when necessary to ensure a high quality of life for all residents.

This role requires a balance of technical knowledge, problem-solving, and the ability to work independently in the field. By monitoring pest populations and manipulating environments to prevent outbreaks, you play a key role in long-term environmental sustainability. You will also handle equipment maintenance and maintain meticulous records to ensure all operations meet strict regulatory standards.

  • Calibrate, operate, and perform minor maintenance on specialized pest management equipment
  • Maintain accurate digital records of chemical usage, field data, and daily activities using mobile devices
  • Perform administrative duties, such as completing timesheets and inventory logs, to support program operations
  • Ensure all duties are performed safely and in strict compliance with City policies and Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  • Provide guidance to seasonal staff and collaborate with the Pest Management Lab on data analysis and control strategies
  • Execute additional related duties as assigned by the supervisor to support branch goals

  • Ability to think laterally to determine the root cause of pest outbreaks and engineer long-term environmental solutions

  • Ability to operate, service and maintain various types of pesticide application equipment
  • Ability to operate GPS, Android devices and computers
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic understanding of the care and operation of truck mounted equipment
