In this position, you will play a core and essential role in the activation of the City's government relations strategy and support Council and executive leadership in their work with other municipalities and other orders of government.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Act as a subject matter expert on intergovernmental matters, and a key facilitator of policy coordination within the City
  • Provide advice to departments, Executive Leadership Team (ELT)  and members of Council on how to advance their initiatives with other orders of government
  • Work with departments in the planning stage of initiatives in order to proactively identify needs and steps required to get support from different orders of government.
  • Influence the departments in their approach with the different orders of government
  • Represent the City of Edmonton at external meetings with diverse groups such as the federal, provincial and municipal orders of government
  • Lead and coordinate meetings of internal stakeholders on intergovernmental matters
  • Support effective advocacy on behalf of Edmontonians at external meetings
  • Build relationships with business areas and stakeholders in order to exercise collaborative influence  
  • Develop proactive and innovative strategies, policy options and negotiation tactics to support the development and implementation of the City's strategic policy direction on intergovernmental issues 
  • Coordinate and lead research projects to advance the City's intergovernmental relationships and priorities 
  • Perform other related duties as required
