The City of Edmonton is looking for a dedicated Team Leader to bridge the gap between our vibrant summer greenery and our essential winter accessibility. In this dual role, you will lead the charge in maintaining beautiful city parkland from April to October before transitioning to oversee critical snow and ice control for our pathways and bike lanes during the winter months. You aren't just managing grass and snow; you are ensuring our city remains safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone who lives here. What will you do?

Summer Operations (April to October)

  • Report to the Mowing & Trimming Manager to oversee the ongoing operation of the mowing & trimming maintenance work plan within Parks & Urban Forestry
  • Provide operations support, leadership and supervision of field crews in the primary tasks of mowing and trimming grass throughout city parkland
  • Coordinate with Landscape Technicians to plan and update inventory and routing for mowing & trimming maintenance
  • Help contribute to the purchase or lease of equipment and necessary supplies to maintain the mowing & trimming inventory

Winter Operations (November to March)

  • Report to the Active Pathways (AP) Manager to implement the AP snow removal portion of the Snow and Ice program
  • Supervise the clearing of city-owned sidewalks, bike lanes, parking lots, staircases, and bus stops
  • Manage the winter inventory and oversee preventive equipment maintenance and replacement programs
  • Provide operational supervision and leadership at the field level to deliver approved winter work plans

Safety and Leadership

  • Promote a safe work environment and maintain rigorous records for employees regarding safety, mandatory, and functional training
  • Ensure all staff are oriented and trained on all tasks and equipment they are asked to use
  • Conduct field inspections of Crew Leaders and staff to ensure compliance with OH&S Alberta and City standards
  • Create, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Hazard Assessments and Controls (HA&Cs)
  • Conduct investigations and complete WCB reports for internal submission and IDC investigations
