Director of Infection Prevention (RN) – Medical Affairs

The Director of Infection Prevention is responsible for overseeing and managing assigned personnel and infection control services across the acute care and ambulatory care spectrum for Maine Medical Center's southern region. Accountability includes supervision of the day-to-day operations of the program, including such functions as infection surveillance and accreditation readiness, as well as working with Epidemiology leadership to define and execute long term strategic plans. The director will be responsible for budget stewardship, operational efficiency, and training and development of infection control personnel. The director serves as a resource to the infection control staff and for staff throughout Maine Medical Center and the campuses and practice sites within their license. The director will also provide expert infection prevention guidance for colleagues across MaineHealth.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Education: Graduation from a 4 year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in the healthcare field. A Master's degree in healthcare, public health or business preferred.
  • License/Certifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont. Certification in Infection Control required.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years work experience in Epidemiology and Infection Prevention. Knowledge of infectious disease process, surveillance, epidemiologic investigations, prevention and controlling the transmission of infectious agents/healthcare-associated infections. Knowledge of descriptive and analytical epidemiology. Knowledge of laws, regulations and standards pertaining to infection prevention. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate infection prevention practices, policies, and procedures. Business or public health experience desired.
  • Knowledge of current patient care techniques, methods, practices, and procedures.
  • A high level of critical thinking skill, process, and problem solving skill and systems knowledge necessary for participation in clinical initiatives and project management.
  • Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with a wide range of hospital and non-hospital personnel of all levels. Communication and leadership skills sufficient to lead individuals and groups through assessment, planning and evaluation processes.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, not limited to Windows based programs, Power Point, Excel, Access, and Epic.
