POSITION SUMMARY:

An employee classified as a Custodian will perform work throughout the college maintained facilities providing cleaning and building sanitation. The employee will operate the necessary equipment and properly use the college approved cleaning products to maintain the facilities which will include but not limited to classrooms, locker rooms, restrooms, elevators, office spaces, laboratory spaces, lobbies, corridors, cafeteria areas and utility spaces. A Custodian will do the cleaning of all building materials including but not limited to walls, ceilings, floors, windows, vents, doorways, swimming pool and furniture. This position will be expected to perform the following duties, dusting, mopping, washing, buffing, sweeping, vacuuming and trash removal. A Custodian will be expected to maintain all custodial equipment, stock the necessary products, assist with event setups, report broken articles and provide a safe working environment while performing the above duties. A Custodian may be assigned to crew lead personnel on an as needed basis. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Cleaning, sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, polishing, buffing, dusting, vacuuming, window washing, etc., as assigned by the crew leader and/or the custodial supervisor.
  • Operate and maintain floor machine scrubbers, vacuums and other janitorial accessories.
  • Report all broken articles, damaged surfaces and make minor repairs
  • Assist in setting up equipment for activities and special events

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination and drug screening test
  • Must be able to work independently/or as part of a group with minimum supervision
  • Must be physically able to perform all duties within the classification and lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  •  Must be willing to adapt to change and multi task
  • Ability to interact well with students, employees from all areas of the college and community members
  • Good working knowledge of disinfectants and cleaning agents.
