MARTINSBURG, WV VA Medical Center is seeking a dynamic Emergency Medicine Physician

Located in the heart of West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle, the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) can be found on 175 acres in historic Berkeley County and has a service area of more than 70,000 Veterans in West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The Medical Center, part of the VA Capitol Health Care Network (VISN 5), offers a comprehensive range of services, including internal medicine, ambulatory surgery, audiology and speech pathology, dental, nursing home, nutrition, podiatry, prosthetics, women's health, mental health and rehabilitation medicine. Patient care is provided through an integrated primary care concept, and each veteran is assigned to a team of health care providers that follows the patient's care both as an inpatient and an outpatient. The employees of the Martinsburg VAMC are dedicated to improving the quality of life for eligible veterans through excellent health care.We are seeking Board Eligible or Board-Certified in Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physicians with at least 2 years of experience working in Emergency Department (ED).

The physician working in ED must determine if a patient's symptoms may be caused by a serious medical condition. If a patient presents to the emergency department in distress, the emergency physician may be expected to perform any of the following:

  • Evaluation and treatment of the following body systems: skin, eye, ear, nose, throat, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urologic, reproductive, nervous, endocrine, musculoskeletal and hematology pf patients in Emergency Room.
  • Perform invasive and non- invasive procedures in ED patients, based on the ED guidelines, as emergency resuscitation, placing intravenous line etc.
  • Initial and ongoing assessment of patient's medical, physical, and psychosocial status.
  • Obtain and document a comprehensive medical and psychological history and physical examination. Order appropriate diagnostic tests and interpret laboratory, studies and take appropriate action.
  • Taking whatever steps are necessary to stabilize the patient for transport to another area of the hospital or transport to another hospital.
  • Determining if patients need to be admitted to the hospital for further evaluation.
    • Discharging some patients with instructions for self-treatment and follow-up with their personal care physician for additional evaluation on an outpatient basis
    • Provide medical advice to patients, families, and community health providers by telephone.
    • Document patient care in the electronic health record within the prescribed time limits.
    • Attends Medical Center and community meetings, seminars, conferences.
    • Follow processes established by the Chief of ED, guidelines, MCM, Metrics and policies of VHA and facility.
    • Have the capacity to work in teamwork environment where the priority will be to follow the VHA cores of integrity, commitment, advocacy respect and excellence.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Is a rotative schedule of 8 hours shifts /7 days / 24 hours to complete 80 hours per PP (every 2 weeks).

$280000.0 / Annually - $280000.0 / Annually
Details:
-Competitive Salary based on VHA Pay Scale, January 2024. -Annual Performance Pay until max of $15,000.00. -Free Liability Insurance -50-55 paid days off annually including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and 5 days paid absence for CME. -Excellent Health/Dental/Vision/Term Life/ Traditional Federal Pension & Federal 401K up to 5% employer contribution. -Annual reimbursement of CME expense until max of $1,000.00. -Additional Education Debt Reduction program up to $200,000 reimbursement. -Eligible for Permanent position after 2 years as full-time physician. -Eligible Retirement benefits after work 5 years as full-time physician
