Job Description

The Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) Medical Director defines the mission and vision of the HBPC Service which includes a large array of care services delivered in the patient home. Responsible for overall medical care delivered by the HBPC team and collaborating with the Program Director to provide leadership, the HBPC Medical Director ensures provider medical care plan oversight, keeps the HBPC team apprised of medical care advances and practice standards, and arranges provider coverage.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Provides leadership to the HBPC Program. Including but not limited to, clinical activities and approval of local HBPC SOP, and in the development and implementation of the HBPC's process for continuous performance improvement.
  • Advocates for HBPC with VHA leadership and the medical community and develops partnerships and coordination with PACTs.
  • Participates in selecting HBPC team members, provides clinical input and oversight for all patient treatment planes unless delegated to an HBPC team physician, and is readily accessible to team members with urgent needs for consultation or physician orders.
  • Serves as back-up for other HBPC primary care providers, making occasional, but not routine, home visits.
  • Collaborates with other HBPC Medical Directors, VISN leadership, and VA Central Office staff members on program development issues.
  • Advises management of specific clinical or administrative issues within the HBPC Service Line.
  • Serves as a consultant and advisor to subordinates, peers, and administration.
  • Clinical responsibilities in incumbent's given specialty are provided as needed.
  • Provides clinical oversight of providers within the GEC Department and to providers seeking medical technical guidance or clinical expertise throughout the facility.
  • Managing the GEC Service Line which includes a large array of care services delivered in the Veteran's home.
  • Supervises Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses.

Telework: Ad hoc opportunities, but the incumbent will need to be onsite for majority of role
