General Summary

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Career Experiences, the Assistant Director – Alumni Sharing Knowledge & Career Experiences is responsible for the management of the Alumni Sharing Knowledge Program and the development of a project-based learning initiative for students. The Assistant Director ensures students are able to access alumni to benefit student professional development and build their networks. This position will develop strong relationships with faculty, academic department staff, and other co-curricular unit staff to maximize the utilization of the ASK platform (PeopleGrove). The Assistant Director will also be responsible for the operational planning, development, and management of a new project-based learning initiative for students. 


Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manage the Alumni Sharing Knowledge (ASK) volunteer program, including the development and execution of outreach and recruitment strategies and tactics to continually grow and strengthen the ASK alumni volunteer network and its student participants.

  • Cultivate strong relationships with academic departments, co-curricular units, and other internal partners to maximize student usage of the platform and recruitment of new volunteers.

  • Lead increased usage of ASK informational interview assignments and/or mentoring initiatives within various classrooms and co-curricular programming. 

  • Manage the PeopleGrove platform including maximizing its communications and analytics functionalities. 

  • Supervise ASK Program Assistant.

  • Develop and manage an initiative that creates opportunities for students to gain experience via employer company projects.

  • Research and decide on a platform for the initiative.

  • Develop and execute outreach strategies to solicit projects from a variety of employers/alumni.

  • Refer alumni to relevant volunteer opportunities throughout the Career Center and university.

  • This includes career education program requests, participation in the project-based experiences initiative, classroom presentations, and job shadowing opportunities.

  • Serve as a backup for student employment transactional processes including hiring, payment, and termination paperwork and processes.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Experience in project management, volunteer management, or related field, preferably in a larger organization or higher-ed institution.

  • Strong understanding of career development, professional networking, and mentoring.

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication, and writing skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously and capable of working flexible hours.

Preferred Requirements
  • Knowledge of higher education administration.
Managerial Responsibilities
  • Supervise one student employee.
Other Skills & Abilities Required
  • Technical skills including all Microsoft Office Suite products, including a good understanding of web technologies and database management.
