The Highlights: Reporting to the Director of Graduate Academic Advising, the Sr. Academic Advisor provides full-service, professional academic services to new and continuing Kellstadt Graduate School of Business (KGSB) students including assigned academic programs or cohorts, new student enrollment campaigns, cohort and new student orientations, and email/phone/virtual outreach to new and continuing students to proactively enroll or disseminate information. 


What You'll Do:

  • Provide holistic academic advising for new and continuing KGSB students by conducting individual advising appointments and/or hosting group advising sessions. Advising includes, but is not limited to: academic schedules, long term course planning and class sequencing, progress toward graduation, academic success, career aspirations, basic financial aid/scholarship options, and initiating referrals to appropriate resources.  Logs advising summaries and advising notes into BlueStar/Salesforce. Coordinates scheduling of advising appointments via Slate/Salesforce.  Advises students on interpreting university policies and procedures, specifically academic policies and procedures.  Supports new student advising efforts related through new student orientations.  
  • Monitors students in good academic standing or on academic probation, and conducts appreciative student advising to address academic concerns and develop a student success plan.  Concerns include those raised by faculty and other administrators through BlueStar/Salesforce and addressed by students on academic probation.  Advises students when faculty raise concerns through the BlueStar progress survey.  Supports KGSB retention and persistence efforts. Supports KGSB degree conferral auditing efforts. 
  • Liaises with department chairs and MS Directors. Suggests and supports substitution and waiver recommendations to and by the department chair and MS Directors.  Develops program advising guides for assigned programs and communicates plans to students. Participates regularly in KGSB meetings and events.  Liaises with the  KGSB Career Management team and the recruiting and admission team. 
  • Student Worker or Graduate Assistant. Assign projects and monitor progress.
 

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education, MBA and/or related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience based on type of experience and education. 
  •  Possess professional standards of conduct including a strong sense of ethics and confidentiality 
  • Knowledge of academic advising theory and practice 
  • Recognize and respect diverse backgrounds 
  • Possess superior interpersonal, written communication skills, and group presentation skills
  • Ability to manage large amounts of information and be detail-oriented
  • Ability to multi-task 
  • Demonstrate initiative, creativity and team work
  • Knowledge of University operations
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft, web browsing, Slate and PC applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required during peak operation.  Participates in Commencement, new student orientations and new student recruitment events.
