The Senior Grants & Contracts Specialist in PreAward will guide and assist faculty and staff across the University with all phases of the preaward grant process, from research development to identification of appropriate funding sources through proposal review and submission. Sponsored proposal activity averages $100 million per year.

 

What You'll Do:

  • A successful Senior Grants & Contracts Specialist will support the development and review of complex proposals to multiple funding agencies.
  • We seek a seasoned preaward research administrator familiar with interpretation of university policies, sponsor guidelines, and federal regulations. 
  • You know how to conduct specialized searches of funding opportunities at the request of Principal Investigators (PIs), centers and institutes, and colleges, resulting in annotated lists of opportunities that reflect a broad knowledge of grant programs at federal and state agencies. Updates Office of Research Services (ORS) PreAward and University websites and disseminates information on select funding opportunities to University clientele monthly.
  • You will work closely and collaboratively with senior administrators across the University on proposal activities such as costing issues including faculty effort, data management, and intellectual property. 
  • You will prepare non-disclosure agreements, material transfer agreements, data use agreements, and other associated contractual documents in support of proposal/partnership activities.
  • You will serve as an institutional Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR), approving and submitting proposals to agencies on behalf of the University.  
  • As a Senior Grants & Contracts Specialist you will need a mastery of grant policies, procedures, submission systems and regulatory requirements--especially those that pertain to proposal development and submission--at a wide range of federal, state, municipal, and private/non-profit agencies and public charities. In 2021, this included maintaining such skills with over 135 distinct agencies. Provides 1:1 and group training to faculty and staff on all aspects of the PreAward process.  

 

What You'll Need:

  • Master's degree preferred, and at least 5 years of experience in grants administration. Experience working in a university setting strongly preferred.
  • Mastery of federal and non-federal funding agency policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of research and financial compliance issues, including human subjects, conflict of interest, intellectual property, export controls, and cost-sharing.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Skill in editing written materials on scientific and technical subject matter to create concise, logical, and grammatically correct prose and to prepare electronic proposal submissions for a variety of submission systems (Grants.gov, Research.gov, NIH Assist, Proposal Central, eRA Commons, NSPIRES, BRAP, Bonfire).
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct advanced database and internet searches. Facility with the use of enterprise software such as Oracle.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task on several proposal submissions simultaneously. Working hours may be extended during proposal deadline periods.
