Description

ENSCO is seeking a Mid-Level Railway Research Engineer with experience within the railroad industry to provide research, engineering, testing, and training services to the railway industry in the areas of track; rollingstock; signals and communications; and human factors. 

Efforts may focus on a wide variety of railway initiatives including: 
- Rollingstock testing such as ride quality, braking performance and noise/vibration levels 
- Vehicle/Track Interaction modeling, simulation, and testing
- Vehicle and track component evaluations
- Bridge evaluations
- Signal and communications testing
- Grade crossing safety
- Ergonomics and human factors

Participation in these efforts may include: 
- Writing research plans, test reports and briefings 
- Conducting the research and testing
- Analysis of data
- Authoring research reports, papers, and briefings
- Serving as a point of contact with external project and research stakeholders
- Managing research teams including work assignments, budget management and administrative activities

Qualifications

•    Master's degree or higher in an engineering or scientific field
•    Active contributor in relevant professional organizations within the rail industry (e.g., participation in or leading of committee meetings/working groups, presentation of research, review/publication of papers for sponsored conferences/journals)

Requirements

•    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience 
•    Minimum of 5 years' of relevant experience
•    Experience in railroad industry 
•    Testing/analysis experience in an applicable engineering field
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse interdisciplinary team
•    Ability to build professional and courteous relationships with your colleagues and supervisors 
•    Must be able to safely climb a 15-foot-high ladder to gain access to railroad cars
•    Ability to react well under pressure in high-stressed situations; accept responsibility for own actions.
•    Ability to observe all safety and security procedures; determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.
•    Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

Railroad regulations require that the selected candidate must pass an e-RAILSAFE security background check and online safety tests to work on railroad properties. Wearing safety equipment (hardhat, steel-toe boots, protective vest, and protective eyeglasses) when working on railroad properties is also a requirement. ENSCO will provide all necessary safety equipment.
