At First Student, our School Bus Monitors are a vital part of our commitment to safety and exceptional service. As a Monitor, you'll assist the driver and support students during transportation — making a real difference in your community every day.

School Bus Monitor Responsibilities:

  • Stay alert and monitor student safety and behavior during routes

  • Communicate behavior concerns or stop conditions with the driver

  • Assist with pre-trip and post-trip inspections

  • Help students safely board and exit the bus

  • Work closely with school staff, families, and students

  • Attend all required safety and training meetings

  • Perform emergency evacuation drills, including use of emergency doors

  • Open and close service doors; navigate bus steps multiple times daily

  • Keep the bus interior clean

  • Assist drivers in safely backing up when needed

  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills
