The Sr. Mechanical Architect and Technology Engineer will be based in Farmington Hills, MI.  You will be a member of a team of high-performance computing specialists developing advanced Autonomous Vehicle and Computing systems.  You are a hands-on, motivated, and broadly capable engineer with demonstrated capabilities creating new and unique high-technology products.  Your experience spans electro-mechanical product design, computer systems design, and development of production capable, automotive products.  The role serves products jointly designed by Flex with our OEM and Tier One Automotive customers.

Here is a glimpse of what you'll do…

  • Define and develop mechanical product architectures for high performance, automotive grade Autonomous Vehicle computing systems and sub systems.  
  • Develop, review, and approve specifications to drive hardware design and implementation.
  • Direct the work of engineering staff to develop MCAD and other models to meet architectural specifications and final detailed designs.
  • Select and lead critical component vendors to realize unique electro-mechanical product solutions.
  • Define system level test, proof-of-concept, and characterization regimes to confirm feasibility of design, material, or process capability.  This includes application of state-of-the-art CAE and simulation tools.
  • Represent Flex for your specialty area in customer and internal technical design reviews.

The experience we're looking to add to our team:

  • 10+ years' experience in product development of complex, electro-mechanical systems (eg: automotive, computing, military, avionics). 
  • 5 years' experience in a Mechanical or Product architect role.
  • A solid understanding of assembly development, metrology, and GD&T for mass production, including cast, machined and injection molded components, as well as electronic PCBAs and thermal solutions.
  • Proven experience as technical lead providing work breakdown, direction, and review to technical teams.
  • Knowledge of automotive mechanical design verification and validation at system and sub system levels.

Here are a few of our preferred experiences:

  • Excellent working ability in Siemens NX 3D CAD.
  • One or more of: ECU design for automotive OEMs, high performance computing, high durability design.
  • High level of oral, written, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with customers and others.
  • Understanding of complex electro-mechanical challenges including ingress, EMC, thermal and robustness.
  • Experience applying modern simulation technologies to solve thermal, durability, or other design feasibility concerns.
