Infrastructure Database Engineer

Required Job Qualifications:

Job Purpose:

This position requires experience above traditional DBA activities and responsibilities. 

This position is responsible for providing technical leadership and direction of database products at enterprise level and for working with IT Product Managers and Product Engineering teams in the lifecycle management of an IT product in the data infrastructure (databases, big data, analytics). 

This involves working directly with internal users of products and services in creating a feedback loop for product development.  

The role involves heavy communication with end-users to share these product roadmaps and provide education/advocacy in the interest of driving organizational adoption and the right organizational outcomes.  The Database Engineer also assists in the business management practice of the product including costing, pricing, demand forecasting, metrics/KPI definition, and reporting. 

 

Required Job Qualifications: 

 

* Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of DBA experience, OR 8 years Information Technology.

* Hands on experience as a DBA with database platforms SQL Server and understand the database market trends.

* Experience with Ansible or Terraform is a plus

* Experience with database architecture and engineering implementations.

* Experience with database related infrastructure: storage, network, security, server performance.

* Experience in development of database High Availability and DR deployments.

* Experience in application development platforms and/or data infrastructure systems

* Experience in cloud computing (IaaS / SaaS / PaaS).  Azure is a plus.

* Candidates must have Cloud experience with development, implementation, support, architecture, best practices.

* Experience in iterative, agile and/or scrum development (Jira and Github).

* Experience in the knowledge of product-specific application architecture.

* Good understanding of Azure Active Directory and Windows Authentication.

* Ability to tie together solutions across systems.

* Application domain knowledge.

* Ability to influence.

* Ability to prioritize and make trade-off decisions

* Adaptability and/or ability to manage change.

* Creative thinking.

* Problem-solving/analytical thinking.

* Teamwork and collaboration.

* Experience with Technology Lifecycle Management (TLM) programs to manage multiple multi-million-dollar suites of product licensing

* Experience remediate deployment issues that drive higher licensing cost (i.e. Server consolidation, upgrade efforts, remediation of technical debt, DB integration)

* Additional experience in the TLM area includes the ability to plan for desktop deployment, management, and upgrade strategies for multiple products related to the database space (in partnership with desktop software teams).

* Must be highly organized and able to excel in a task driven model where many open engagements or other matters require frequent touch to work through completion over an extended period.

* Must be able to balance workload between addressing near term operational needs while still leading efforts for long term strategic plans and enhancement roadmaps. 

*Must have strong T-SQL experience.

* Should have experience with PowerShell scripting.

 

 

Preferred Job Qualifications: 

* Bachelors or master's degree in computer science, MIS, or Information Technology or MBA.

* Experience working with databases (relational, nonrelational), big data, and analytics systems.

* Experience with developing multi-year product roadmaps.

* Experience in communicating with a broad base of users and building communities around a product.

* Experience in pricing, costing, and demand forecasting for products.

* Experience in developing metrics and KPIs for a product.

* Demonstrated ability to connect different groups in the organization to build a complete database solution for customers.
