About the RoleAs a Area Controller, you will lead the financial operations for two hotels, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting aligned with GAAP and Hospitality Ventures Management Group (HVMG) standards. Reporting to the Area General Manager.
Core ResponsibilitiesLead the preparation, review, and distribution of monthly hotel financial statements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards and company policies.
Act as a strategic financial advisor to General Managers and hotel leadership teams.
Ensure liquidity and manage working capital across properties by producing weekly/monthly cash forecasts and monitoring outflow projections.
Train, coach, and support hotel accounting teams to promote operational efficiency and compliance.
Review Profit & Loss statements for variances; investigate discrepancies and ensure results align with expectations.
Oversee the completion and accuracy of monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely adjustments.
Manage and improve general accounting processes and controls across assigned hotels.
Review and approve accounts payable entries, payroll uploads, tax filings, and fixed asset records.
Assist in onboarding and transitioning newly acquired properties into centralized financial systems.
Provide financial data and reporting to third-party owners and stakeholders as needed.
Track key hotel metrics and partner with GMs to identify savings and performance improvement opportunities.
Maintain and audit critical legal and financial records (contracts, permits, leases, licenses).
Manage and reconcile all retail entities, including CAM fees and communications with tenants and property managers.
Review credit card fees, chargebacks, and bank fees to ensure they are reasonable.
Implement and monitor property-level controls for front desk, POS, and tax collection procedures.
Proficiency with Sage Intacct, ProfitSword Suite, and Hotel Effectiveness
Strong background in financial statement preparation, payroll, A/P, and income audit functions within hospitality
Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel
In-depth knowledge of GAAP and internal control principles
Experience working with M3 or similar centralized accounting platforms
Ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (required)
3–5 years of progressive experience in multi-property hotel accounting, preferably in a regional or corporate capacity
Proven success in managing accounting functions for multiple properties in a centralized environment
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical data
Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities
Capable of presenting financial information clearly to non-financial audiences
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Ability to work collaboratively across departments and locations
