Your impact 

As a key member of the Paumalu Teleport Engineering team, you will ensure teleport systems, services and infrastructures deliver the highest standard service to our customers. In the role of Senior Teleport Engineer, you will lead complex L2/L3 engineering and maintenance activities associated with telecommunications systems and services. You will have the opportunity to showcase your strong competencies and may serve as subject matter expert when activating services and implementing projects. Apart from supporting complex intra-departmental projects, you will have the chance to mentor and oversee junior engineers within the team. To further develop your skills, you may support or lead design and development engineering activities. 

What you will do 

  • Provide engineering technical support for all assigned teleport & 3rd Party Location projects, programs, and initiatives.
  • Lead technical resolution when performing emergency restoral actions on ground station equipment, including: RF-, IF- and Baseband equipment. 
  • Provide teleport on-site technical support to applicable technologies and ground station equipment, providing guidance to others on operational and maintenance procedures, and providing technical training on equipment or product and services as required.
  • Serve in engineering support role as assigned for analysis, design, development, and implementation activities
  • Serve a teleport technical lead role in the installation, configuration, operating, testing and successful turn-up of new systems & services, and administrative requirements.   
  • Provide guidance on preventative and periodic maintenance checks of ground station equipment and associated sub-systems, validating recordings and reviews for any anomalies and taking the appropriate action to correct. 
  • Determine proper methods for testing equipment and RF/IF systems chains and interpret the results to verify normal/abnormal conditions of equipment. 
  • Provide expertise for troubleshooting problems related to complex operations issues down to Lowest Field Replaceable Unit (LFRU) or to a component level replacement when applicable. 
  • Serve as a resource to Teleport Technicians for resolution of tasks and projects and develop junior team members. 
  • Perform on-call responsibilities.
  • Support and lead the development and enhancement of engineering and maintenance procedures, reviewing/auditing system performance indicators and training others in the proper use of the procedures. 
  • Constantly look for opportunities to improve technical, process and cost efficiency. 
  • Keep up to date with ongoing items and issues within the network and the station, as well as with the latest Intelsat products and services. 
  • Prepare reports and updates as needed. 
  • Interface with Operation Centers and Teleport Engineering or other groups as required to facilitate repair or enhancement to the systems. 
  • Provide level 2 infrastructure support to the operations team, including on-call rotation support.

 Your required experience/skills  

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent technical education, ideally in the field of Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of systems level architecture and ground station equipment. 
  • Demonstrated in-depth working knowledge of Satellite Earth Station technologies required. 
  • Must have in-depth working knowledge of RF theory, and basic electronics, with specific expertise with a majority of major systems like RF-, IF- and Baseband equipment. 
  • Must have demonstrated in-depth knowledge of and ability to use industry standard test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, power meters, synthesized generators, oscilloscopes, microwave network analyzers, network analyzers, and bit error rate test sets. 
  • Basic IP and networking experience
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, understand intricate technical concepts and make informed decisions.
  • Demonstrated good knowledge of ancillary plant systems such as HVAC, UPS, electrical switchgear and generating systems. Ability to trains others in their functions and operating parameters.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English. 
  • Good organizational, multi-tasking and team player skills.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • General PC skills and proficiency in use of “Office Suite” software.
  • This role is subject to ITAR; candidates must be a US Person (this includes US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Individual such as an asylee or refugee).
