Director of Engineering – Remote

What are we looking for?

As a Director of Engineering with Intertek Alchemy, you will set the vision, strategy, and execution for our technology organization. You'll align engineering with business goals, lead innovation in architecture and automation, and foster a culture of excellence, agility, and user-centricity. This role blends strategic leadership with technical depth and requires the ability to scale teams, processes, and technologies to meet the demands of a growing SaaS business.

What you'll do:

  • Define and execute the vision and roadmap for engineering, architecture, and product quality.
  • Align technology strategy with business goals and market trends.
  • Lead technology assessments, including M&A due diligence and integration planning.
  • Introduce and scale innovative technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Continuously improve engineering processes for timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and risk across teams and projects.
  • Mentor and develop engineering leaders and individual contributors.
  • Champion user-centric design, agile practices, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Partner with stakeholders and customers to align priorities and solutions.
  • Drive accountability and track performance through clear metrics and reporting.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field.
  • 8+ years of leadership experience, including 4+ years leading engineering organizations.
  • 2+ years of hands-on software development experience.
  • Proven success scaling teams, managing budgets, and leading the full talent lifecycle.
  • Deep experience with SaaS platforms and cloud-based solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with data privacy and compliance standards (HIPAA, GDPR, PCI, etc.).
  • Ability to coach and mentor both managers and technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Technical familiarity with:
  • Front-end: JavaScript, React, HTML5, CSS
  • Back-end: Linux, Apache, PHP, Node, AWS Lambda, REST APIs
  • Databases: Relational DBs
  • Tools: GitHub, Jira
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) or training platforms.
  • Background in Environmental Health & Safety or Food Safety manufacturing.
  • M&A due diligence and integration leadership.
  • Experience scaling engineering teams through growth phases.
  • Familiarity with SAFe or other scaled agile frameworks.
