What are we looking for?

The Construction Technician II is responsible for performing field and laboratory testing of construction materials including soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards. This position may require travel to job sites within the Rio Grande Valley region.

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage range for this position is $20 – $25 per hour, depending on experience and certification level.
Compensation packages are based on factors including skill set, qualifications, certifications (ACI, TxDOT, NICET), and experience.

What you'll do:

  • Perform field density testing of soils and base materials using nuclear gauge methods (per ASTM D6938)
  • Conduct concrete field testing (slump, temperature, air content, and cylinder fabrication per ASTM C143/C231/C31) 
  • Assist with laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, and concrete (e.g., Proctor, sieve analysis, moisture content)
  • Prepare daily field reports, record test data accurately, and communicate results to project managers or clients
  • Maintain equipment, vehicles and tools in safe operating condition 
  • Follow company and industry safety procedures at all times
  • Support other field and laboratory staff as needed to meet project deadlines

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of experience in construction materials testing or a related field
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I certification
  • Experience performing field and laboratory testing of soils, concrete, and aggregates
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to travel locally to job sites within the Rio Grande Valle region (daily travel, company vehicle provided)
  • Valid driver's license and reliable driving record
  • Ability to travel locally to job sites within the Rio Grande Valle region (daily travel, company vehicle provided)
  • Must be able to lift up to 75lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
