Test Engineer (Automation)

 

Intertek is searching for an Test Engineer (Automation) to join our Connected World team in our Waltham, Massachusetts office.  This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in Engineering!

 

 

The Test Engineer (Automation) is a mid-level contract position and is primarily a software development role working with a team of wireless software testers and application testers.  The primary objective for this candidate will be to participate in the implementation of both test cases and framework in Java with the Appium automation tool. The Test Engineer (Automation) role will include technical input and support to the Software Development Lead and Project Manager.  They will be a mentor to new staff members and participate in conference calls with customers on the project they are assigned.  The Test Engineer (Automation) will be assigned to multiple simultaneous projects and must be able to prioritize their daily work efforts.

 

The Test Engineer (Automation) will have deep scripting knowledge using Python and Java. Must be familiar with Appium/Selenium and can work on both Android and iOS. This candidate should be able to be given an assignment and work independently with little or no direction.  This engineer will be expected to work within the established framework and provide input on possible expansions and improvements.

 

The Test Engineer (Automation) will also be responsible for implementing various regression, functional, licensing, networking, data storage and user interface testing on the basis of the information provided by developers for their software with the help of available plans and tools. Participation and creation of technical reports is essential to perform these duties. Also, the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies along with attention to detail and excellent communication and writing skills are essential.

 

What you'll do:

  • Write scripts with languages like Python or Javascript.
  • Implement automation test cases in Java with Appium.
  • Setup and maintain Java projects with the Eclipse IDE.
  • Use and improve our automation framework.
  • Implement Continuous Integration with Jenkins/Hudson.
  • Work on Mac with OSX and Terminal.
  • Download and install development environments.
  • Use Android SDK, ADB, and UIAutomatorViewer.

 

What it takes to be successful in this role:

 

Required:

 

  • AA or BA/BS College degree in the field of technology
  • Minimum of 2 years of automation experience in testing applications on mobile phones, specifically Android and iOS.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with the Java programming language.

 

Preferred:

 

  • Experience with test automation tools such as Selenium WebDriver, Appium, SeeTest, TestNG, Junit.
  • Experience with Python, Javascript, and continuous integration systems like Jenkins/Hudson.
  • Experience with source code management like Git.
  • Experience with database query languages like MySQL.
  • Experience with Mac OSX and command line.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, DOM.
  • Knowledge in software testing methodology and the software development life cycle.
  • Solid technical background.
  • Experience testing applications on mobile devices with Android and iOS.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written.
  • Team oriented.
  • Sound judgment, decision-making, problem-solving, organization, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Technical knowledge of personal computers hardware, software imaging tools, Mac and Windows.
  • Skills with general office software like Microsoft Office (excel, word, email).
