Test Engineer, Engine Fuels and Lubricants – San Antonio, Texas

What are we looking for?

The Test Engineer, Engine Fuels and Lubricants is responsible for ensuring smooth operation of assigned projects through planning and control and ensures all fuel and lubricant tests are performed according to test specifications. They will also monitor tests to result in client satisfaction and business cell profitability.

What you'll do:

  • Manages tests to assure conformance with established procedures.
  • Communicates test status with client personnel as well as management.
  • Writes reports and summaries to include daily status, weekly production report, and end-of-test (EOT) log.
  • Audits all data forms for accuracy and completeness prior to processing by Client Services personnel.
  • Compiles test data, monitors data for test variance, and takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical and instrumentation problems.  
  • Assists in setting up equipment under test.
  • Shares “on-call” responsibilities with supervisor and other personnel.  Provides technical assistance during off-duty hours via telephone.  Responds to on-site assistance requests from supervisory or engineering staff.
  • Establishes quality control procedures to assure test validity; verifies instrumentation and calibration.
  • Coordinates reference testing with ASTM/TMC.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering required
  • Familiarity with engines and engine systems required - Have at least a good understanding of engines and how they perform based on self interest and experience and/or dedicated courses.
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Skills in technical writing, computer systems (MS Office) and software (Excel) essential.
  • Must be available to respond to off duty calls for technical assistance. Exposure to heat, noise, engine fuels and rotating mechanical equipment on a routine basis.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established parameters.

  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering
  • Involvement in the Society of Automotive Engineers
  • Hands on mechanical experience 
  • Prior project management experience
