PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

  • The Environmental Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating Environmental Maintenance teams across all regions of Iowa Select Farms. This position ensures consistent execution of environmental maintenance programs, compliance standards, and operational excellence throughout the company. The Supervisor will provide statewide oversight of team performance, resource planning, and project prioritization to support production needs, protect environmental systems, and maintain high standards of safety and biosecurity. This role requires strong leadership, organization, and strategic planning to deliver results across multiple facilities and regions.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Leadership: Direct and develop Environmental Maintenance Technicians throughout the state, ensuring alignment with company goals, priorities, and core values.
  • Statewide Program Management: Establish consistent standards, policies, and procedures for environmental maintenance across all regions and sites.
  • Planning & Prioritization: Build annual and seasonal plans for mowing, lagoon management, equipment upkeep, and environmental projects; ensure resources are aligned with operational needs.
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee the operation and maintenance of environmental infrastructure including lagoons, pumps, valves, heavy equipment, mowing operations, and related assets.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with environmental, biosecurity, and safety regulations; hold teams accountable to non-negotiable compliance standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Production, Environmental, Safety, and Warehouse departments to ensure seamless support and alignment of work.
  • Team Development: Recruit, train, coach, and mentor team members to build technical skillsets, leadership capacity, and future bench strength.
  • Data & Reporting: Utilize metrics, dashboards, and ticketing systems to track performance, monitor compliance, and provide transparent reporting to senior leadership.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and cost-savings within environmental operations.
  • Culture & Engagement: Create a culture of pride, professionalism, and accountability where “walking by nothing” becomes standard.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly lead Environmental Maintenance Technicians across multiple regions of the state.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and structured development opportunities to strengthen leadership at all levels.
  • Ensure succession planning and readiness of the team to meet future organizational needs.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Combination of office and field responsibilities.
  • Frequent exposure to agricultural environments, including lagoons, barns, heavy equipment, dust, gases, and outdoor conditions.
  • Travel to farms and facilities statewide on a routine basis.
  • Must consistently follow all biosecurity protocols.

 

PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
  • Ability to read and write.   
  • The employee must have the ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds along with climbing up ladders and over gates.
  • The employee must be able to continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds along with climbing up ladders and over gates.
  • Direct contact with animals may occur, so company bio-security practices must be understood and always practiced.  

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position that will typically require at least 40 hours a week.
  • Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges. 
  • Weekend and holiday rotations are a requirement.
  • Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as the job duties demand. 
  • This is a full-time position with the expected days of Monday-Friday
  • On-Call weekend rotation is required.

 

TRAVEL

  • Travel will be required for this position through the utilization of a company vehicle. 
  • Occasional overnight travel might be required for necessary events that pertain to this position. 
  • Travel is expected to various Iowa Select Farms facilities which may be local and out-of-area with little to no overnight travel through the utilization of a company provided vehicle. 

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Operations Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in maintenance, environmental services, or operations management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple teams across a wide geographic region.
  • Technical knowledge in welding, electrical, plumbing, pumps, and heavy equipment operations preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
